First.. you need to dismantle you astro ODU Unit from your old house. Depends, if u want to save cost, dismantle it by yourself... but if you call installer to dismantle it for you, usually they will cost you around RM50 and above... Last time when I move to new house, my father friend dismantle it, and we just "belanja" him with lunch at our new house...
Second, after you have dismantle astro ODU, bring it to your new house.., same as above, if you wanna save a cost, install it yourself, if u call installer to so it for you, they will charge minimum of RM80 for installation of ODU unit... (installer at my area charge me RM80 to install ODU at my new house). The installer that I call is the same person who install my Astro for the first time.... Thirdly, after installation complete, you need to call astro CS, tell to them that you have moved to the new house, ang give the the new billing address, astro view delivery address and your new astro unit address.... They usually will change it immediately. For my case, my latest bill and astro view books arrived safely to my new house. And, that's all you need to do... i donno whether you have different case than me.., but the above steps are worked for me.... |

Or, you can just terminate the account, and apply a new one at the new house. Then it will be free installation. But IIRC, there's a one month grace period before you can apply a new account. And also, a new contract.

Last time I called astro, the free move promotion is over.
They charge you RM150 to re-install + RM 50 to dismantle at u old place. I must said AjkR06 suggestion is viable. like me, I try to save the cost as much as I can. For some people, 200 is nothing then spending a few hour try to dismantle this thing. and also for terminate and new installation is also acceptable and I done this 3 years ago.. Since the old astro on my wife name I just do new installation using my name and terminate my wife account. All free except 2 year contract. Since for sure you will using astro why this is a bad idea? you got new decoder, new dish and so on + backup decoder + remote + dish from your old setup. This is OK if you contract is OVER. I move again early this year and again trying to save a money I do it myself. Dismantle is quite easy. Try to re-install is different story. Just using the television set, it's take me 2 days (around 1 hour/day) try to get the signal. But at last I did it. BUT same channel is not working. Mostly channel I never watch except ntv7 and tv1. Current solutions... Upgrade to Byond. New things again with cost RM20x12. After 1 year will downgrade to basic package again. herojack41 : If you can't do it urself doesn't mean others can't also.. And calling people stupid doesn't help either. Why astro charging you RM150 + RM50 and not RM 200 is because most people can dismantle the units. Just a few nuts only. of BTW, my mover guy (not certified by astro) offering RM80 for complete package. But if you go this route, make sure you check all channel before they leaving. |

But don't blame them when you got signal lost during light rain. But for me, I'm satisfy for what I've done. Billing address & astro view delivery you can change it online or by call CS. Yup, precisely. I even have friends who terminated and applied for a new account when their decoders went kaput. Why buy and pay if you can get it for free? Of course there's the contract, but since you'll be using it anyways, that should not matter. herojack41 : If you can't do it urself doesn't mean others can't also.. And calling people stupid doesn't help either. If you want the installer to do it for you, if possible try and contact the installer directly. Maybe can negotiate a bit more than going through Astro. Dismantle you can do on your own. Just a few screws, then let the installer install at your new place. |

I dismantled the astro dish myself.. It should be easy if you have wrench tools. But since I didn't have it, I just use a plier to loosened a few bolts..
I save myself rm50.. Dismantle/uninstall astro dish is just like dismantle furniture. All you need is loosened the screws.. No wiring knowledge required. As for the white satellite cable, if it's difficult to dismantle, just cut it.. the cable can be easily reconnected later using the proper connector.. As for installing, it can be diy too.. just look for neighbours astro dish, and point your astro roughly at the same direction.. In my hometown, the installer don't bring any tools.. he just know how to fix the dish on the roof top, and then, look at the signal strenght indicator menu on the television.. he said, as long as it's green, it should be fine. No need to achieve 90% or above.. and he's correct. No problem with astro viewing.. This post has been edited by zeese: May 3 2010, 11:42 AM |

try to get as high as possible, because when rain, then your chance of getting signal is higher. Thats why for beyond they need new dish and new cables because its higher gain.

yes, diy and save money, you have already got satellite meter built-in inside decoder, ask your partner to shout out the meter when you are tuning your dish
no need to intall your dish high up, as long as there as your dish's line of sight have no obstruction, you can install your dish anywhere. |

yep yep... you can be on the groundfloor or the topfloor... as long as there's no obstruction....
as for me... i'm live in a condo and my dish only can get 70% at best without clouds... when rain comes in... gone.... because it doesn't have direct line of sight |

one of my neighbour just places the decoder on the ground.
I guess, he is just a tenant, that's why he doesn't bother to install it nicely. and this one is definitely DIY.. Anyway, I moved into a new house last december. The installer charge me rm100. According to astro customer's service, they can also dismantle for me for RM50 but I chose to dismantle it myself. This post has been edited by zeese: May 4 2010, 08:52 AM |

I don't think it is hard to DIY.
I am moving house soon too. Will probably ask wiring friend's help to dismantle it as I don't have the ladder to reacj it. After that, can DIY as I don't intend to install it high up in the new house. Just need to align the disc with the neighbours and ask wifey to check the signal from the decoder. |

well when astro 1st started, i bought the decoder+dish and did the installation all by my self.
(at the time astro 1st launched, the cost of decoder+dish was RM1,400) three years ago when i shifted house. I dismantle the dish my self, thinking to install it in new house by my self also. but too busy with work, the dish put in the store room for two months. after two months, when i install it...no signal..no picture... sent the decoder to Philips service centre, they change some electronic component in the box and that cost me RM80. but after this still no picture no signal I went to astro service centre with the decoder smartcard. They check the smart card....and than i bring the card back....still no picture. brought the decoder to Phillips service centre again, they ask me: "is your astro dish old model or new model." I said "old model, because my astro dish was the 1st generation" than they adjust some setting in the setup screen. Only after that i was able to get the signal and picture. Actually, for my Astro Byond, i called the customer services and they arrange someone to dismantle and assemble everything at my new house free of charge. No need to pay anything. The installer mentioned that i only need to pay if the cable is not long enough but since the we got the cabling built into the house it was all for free. Try to give them a call.

i called astro last night just to see whether their customer service would be able to help. had to explain exactly what i wanted to do (moving from one apartment to another apartment where both have a centralised astro dish) a few times, but she also said that we can do it ourselves (i.e. just move the decoder and then try the plug and play method).
we just need to inform astro about the change of billing address. |

QUOTE(ameenskywalker @ Sep 21 2010, 05:22 PM) Actually, for my Astro Byond, i called the customer services and they arrange someone to dismantle and assemble everything at my new house free of charge. No need to pay anything. The installer mentioned that i only need to pay if the cable is not long enough but since the we got the cabling built into the house it was all for free. Try to give them a call. that's only true for astro beyond.. |

if i want to move the TV to a different wall of the house and need the wiring re-wired, how much is the installation charge? this includes drilling a hole in the wall.. the satellite dish doesn't need to be removed
i don't want to be overcharged by astro people |
