We had a Q&A session with the Wildlife Department in Shah Alam yesterday morning, and it seems like there is still a chance for keepers who still had not declared their scheduled tortoises and turtles.

For those affected by Act 716 (Peninsular Malaysia), it is advisable to declare any scheduled species before the grace period ends in June. Once the Act is fully operational (it had been enforced but so far no actions had been taken) there would be no excuse to not have permits as the authorities had given not once, but 2 chances to get them legalized.

Another session will be conducted in Langat area very soon, and every state branch in the peninsular will conduct them. So if you have any doubts, questions, or simply want to express concern or dissatisfaction, please attend these sessions. I will try to post information regarding times and venues as best as I could.

I would like to share some licensing information here.

As we all know we need to declare our pet (TTT) with wildlife before 27th June 2011 and once we declared, a temporary license will be given. After July 2011, the authority will call us up to take the permanent license once done and we pay them accordingly.

License fee still not confirm but is yearly renewal basis.

For those who stay in KL, you may declare at WildLife Cheras (Tel: 03-91710258 Add: 21, Jalan Dwi Tasik 1, Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras).

I did ask one of the PIC in WildLife whether they will not approve the declaration and RAMPAS our pet. He said they will not do so. I hope what he said can be trusted hmm.gif

Hi Guys, declared my Indian Star last Friday. I got a temporary license straight away after submitting the form without paying a single cent.
They will inform me to collect the permanent license once done via post. Of course during that time we need to pay for the licensing fee. Until today WildLife still not confirm on the fee yet.

p/s:  If declare using condo/ Townhouse address, need to get approval letter from management.
*
I think that is a receipt rather than a temp license?

legal Aldabras that come with documents can easily be obtained from the US and Europe.

just a matter of convincing (and paying) importers that are willing to import them.

Thanks bro

Anyone have any ideas how come my tortoise shell looks weird?
Is just like not fully grow on certain part of the shell.
Because of malnutrition or born like that?
Any cure?

1st image is on the right corner there and 2nd is at the bottom behind part. The pattern just not organise laugh.gif

Looks like malnutrition? Lacking of calcium?

How big issit? how long has it been with u?

Do u provide sunlight or UVA/B light? Calcium powder?

Ermmm i have been keeping them for few months already since Jan 2011. When i got them already like that. Now is about 8cm.

Every morning i give them multivitamin powder together with their meal as for the UVA/B i dun give them but weekend i put them at balcony for natural sunlight.

Can i know where to get the calcium powder in the market for them?
*
They need UV-B light or sunlight everyday, otherwise they cant absorb calcium properly and the shell will become deformed or soft

Calcium powder u can find it in er.. pet safari? or try search in lyn street mart?

Without sunlight even u give calcium powder is not useful

LOL, that's really a hard one because the usage had not been standardized.

Americans mostly recognize the species Aldabrachelys gigantea nowadays while some European taxanomists (Pritchard, Bonin etc) prefers to use Dipsochelys elephantina and others (Ernst, Barbour) still call them Geochelone gigantea. And don't forget Dipsochelys dussumieri.

and although many treated them as a monotypic species, some taxonomists divided them further into different species and subspecies (D. hololissa/A.g.holilissa, D. arnoldii/A.g. arnoldii, etc) so we can conclude that a conclusive taxa had not been standardized.

however, if you're looking to declare them, I suggest that you use the name Geochelone gigantea as it is the only way that you're gonna get a permit. Act 716 only recognize Geochelone spp. but not the other synonymous genera.

uh ah..
Very Informative

Sorry for delayed reply I would suggest you just file it down a little each time 2 weeks apart till your desired length !!

They kept in wired cage or on pellets since small ? Try add a cement slab ( even a tile placed down side up also can ) as dinner plate to act as jaw n nail trimmer !! Nice size tort you got there , got it since small or ?

Cheers
Sam

I keep them in a big tank, using newspaper as substrate, thats y their nail is growing longer n longer
