Hi all, new d90 user reporting to this thread. My Lumix DMC-FZ35 has been loyal as a learning tool to build on my basic knowledge on photography and has been replaced by my new D90 today! So far, went out for a few shots with it, not much results yet. I guess I'm jz too excited, nvr even read any user manual, jz jump out straight to shoot photos. hoho!

I bought in Lowyat, shop's name very unusual. Called 'camera shop'. RM3280 for kit set with tripod, 8gb & bag. I believe if ur new to DSLR like I am, the D90's performance will be more than good enough to meet all yr needs. As for price, I dunno how much lower it can get. I surveyed around quite thoroughly, most average around RM3300++ with the standard 4gb, bag & tripod only. Mine is jz a slightly better deal. Good luck hunting!

Will be doing an outdoor portrait shot for my relative's pre-wedding next week. Will my kit set D90 decent enough? Hope 2 achieve some results. Anywhere I can read for a good guide for shooting portrait with kit lens? No cash 2 buy any lens atm.

I think its better to post here than cr8 a new thread as I'm a D90 user too. Jz got my D90 less than 3 weeks. Been shooting around quite often & 2 name a few, went to DCIM, 1U fashion week. Now I'm so into buying an external flash gun (SB-600), cuz I feel I rly need it but I'm jz worrying I'm moving 2 fast. I tried my fren's SB-800 recently and it seem to be so helpful in all this event photography and not too mention indoor low lighting shots. Only thing, since i've jz started DSLR, am I going 2 fast as I suddenly rely so much on an external flashgun that I borrowed from my fren and now felt the extreme need 2 purchase a SB-600 & skip the part on learning 2 make full use of the in built flash? Its pain to spend so much and I don't wanna look too impulsive as this is my new found enthusiasm recently. Any opinion from u guys? Buy it or not?

buy it...internal flash cant help much..and u cant bounce the internal flash...lolx..there isn't moving fast or slow...everyone will need external flash in the end...XD

There are diffusers that lets you bounce to ceiling with your built in flash. But you're gonna stress a lot on the flash... probably risk burning the bulb faster :S. Speedlight prokit has one but I can't recall the name.

I think I never use the built in flash before more than 3 times since I started to venturing into DSLR last year. Even when I use it I will use a white card to bounce the flash.

Just get the external flash it is really really useful for taking pictures indoor. Once i am into it I never get rid of it while taking pictures indoor

Thx for yr feedback, guys! After hearing yr comments, I feel more set to buy the SB-600. I wasn't that into it b4 this, until I got hold of a SB-800 and start firing away. The indoor pictures esp events turned out to be a significant improvement. So, 3 weeks of using a new D90 and now SB-600 is not consider crazy pace after all la.. sweat.gif

Hi all, I jz bought a 50mm f1.8 AF-D lens for my D90 few days back. Now I'm having one prob, I bought a 30bux Keep UV filter for my lens. Unfortunately, I'm not too sure if I'm right, I notice quite a noticeable decrease in sharpness for my img when the UV filter is on and it is most pronounced at f2.8...

This is my first lens I purchase after my kit set. Anyone can enlighten me on this with personal experience? Obviously, I don't wanna compromise on img quality that much jz becuz I wan the protection of the filter...

Hey guys, as I've posted in this thread earlier that I've bought a D90 recently (bout 2 mths ago) and now I rly think my D90 is a grey set though the shop that sold me the camera insisted repeatedly that this is an original set. I was a fool to just believe his words and not double checked properly before purchasing it at RM3250 as I discovered it has no 'nikon mys sdn bhd' sticker on the box & warranty card. It has the stickor 'my world trading sdn bhd' or sth lk that. not too sure bout it...

Now here's the thing, I heard grey set or local set, there are in fact the same and so far I haven't come across with 'pirated nikon DSLR'. My D90 produce great pictures but one thing which worried me the most is the fact that my battery en-el3e which comes with my new unit has quite a weak batt life span. Averagely on a full charge I can manage only 500-600+ pictures or sometimes even less. And among the 500-600+, probably around 30% or less is taken with flash for wireless triggering purpose. Bottomline is that my batt life is significantly weaker when I compare to a fren of mine who jz bought a D90.

Today we did a comparison, with more or less the same shooting style, we started of with 100% batt, by the time we shot 30 pics, his was still at 100% while mine was already at 93% and when we reached our 100pic++, his was still strong at 88% while mine was already 77%.

So I checked his batt & compare 2 mine and 2 my amazement, there's diff in our battery! I'm attaching the pic I took to show u guys the difference. The one highlighted in red box is mine while my fren batt is the other. May I know how's yr original batt like? I'm rly furious with the shop, sold me a possibly grey set camera and now I'm rly worried my batt could b a counterfeit one too...

Here's the picture:

TQ for yr time, guys

btw, my battery is ori even thou cam is grey set
bout D90 battery im not sure, maybe got revised ver?

Owh, I bought from a shop in Lowyat Plaza. Well in fact at RM3250, their price is slightly lower than the average of RM3300+. However, They really really kept telling me it was original local set. I was asking them bout it. Then I ended up buying it cuz I wasn't aware bout the importance of having Nikon Mys Sdn Bhd thing at first. He told me I can checked at 'My World Sdn Bhd' and claimed my warranty there like all original unit does. Since I was still innocent and new to buying a Nikon DSLR, I was terribly misled by him and did not think I will be cheated hence I didn't try 2 investigate further even I suspected a little for not having the Nikon Mys thing. I would have topped up more for a local set with proper warranty if he had told me the truth. This is totally conning. So my battery is diff from yrs?

QUOTE(kenji_britney @ Jul 5 2010, 10:47 PM)
i don't think there's counterfeit nikon batteries though. it could be that they might have swapped your new battery with an older more worn out battery, but that's just guessing. my D90 is also new, around 1 month old from singapore. i just shot 700+ continuous shooting on friday and the battery just went down by 1 or 2 bars. then on saturday i shot 1500+ continuous on the same battery without charging, went down another 2 or 3 bars.

Yea, from my understanding, the D90 batt life supposedly is very strong. Mine even on the first wk, I felt that it run out of juice unusually fast. And only today I discovered my batt was diff from my fren's D90 batt. Well, if they had swap the battery out, that would b totally cheating customers!!!
