Hi,
This is my first posting here.
I have been looking around for a new notebook for my work. What attracted me to Sony Vaio is the applications that are bundled with all new notebook models are just fantastic.
I have actually shortlist my shopping list to E14P. I plan to use this new notebook for my work. I need to run quite alot of VMware instances on this new notebook. And I like E14P as it has the highest screen resolution.
Do you think I will find more bargain in the coming PC Fair at KLCC, this weekend? If there is good offer for S-series, I might consider it too.

I am amazed with E14P that could last up to 5.5hrs on std battery. I read in the net that it is due to the way the notebook switch between the 2 graphic modes. Anyone got details on how it works? I know S-series has the Stamina/Speed switch that help on the extension of its battery life.

Any feedback is appreciated!

The Vaio E14P is not bad though.
Played around at the Sony Store last time, it does look nice.

The specs are quite ok as well.
I did for a bit thought of getting it previously, but the S13P just won my heart.

I'm also going to run alot of VMware instances on my laptop as well.
Too bad my S13P only support max of 12GB RAM. Not sure about the 14P though.  hmm.gif
Haven't yet upgrade the RAM, but did ask a number of shop, yet they don't have the 8GB stick.

Not sure about the price in PC Fair, but it doesn't hurt to wait and try.

E14P max memory supported is 16GB. The main reason for me is the screen size and price point. I guess 8GB SODIMM would be very rare in KL. May be in Singapore would be more common.

One more question. One of the Sony Centre sales guy told me that E14P Silver color casing is actually make of aluminium just like the S13P. Can anyone confirm this?

I will go down to KLCC and check out any offers for E14P.

Went to PC Fair and got myself a S-series instead. It is a White SVS13116fbg.... tongue.gif

Btw, yesterday when I started to use more of it, I notice the big touchpad is not really even. Can feel it sink in abit on the left side and jerk-up abit on the right side. What can I do? Can I demand for a new set due to manufacturing defect? If I send it for fixing I worry once they open up the notebook for this small imperfect issue, will then even cause more major issue in the future.

Any advice on how to "care" for this white color S-series? I worry it will becoming like my white macbook, after a few years of use. Any special cloth or liquid to clean the white surface?

Thank you.

Cheers//KH

@vaio2kh congrats on your purchase!

the only thing that i guess i dont really like is that all the connections are on the right side and that when i connect stuff it gets in the way of my mouse...haha! guess i have to use the mouse a bit farther..

Yes, I was also wondering why the designer put all ports at one side only. The only logical explanation I could give myself is that to cater for situation when you have a tight working desk. So only 1 side with all the usb flash stick!

I also notice the memory usage is getting very high. Easily over 2.5GB is used up. Fortunately this model allow 8GB memory module, which would have 12GB in total for my VMWares stuff. I already disable some programs from starting up auto. Also use Windows Security Essential instead of Trend Micro Anti-virus. Now it is around 1.9GB used when startup.

Good suggestion!

Btw, can I uninstall Trend Micro, instead of disabling it from startup?

Do you all have problem getting the Vaio Manual? I tried clicking on the Vaio Manual but nothing loaded. Instead redirect me to a website. icon_question.gif

Congrats bro!

I think mine also like yours, the touchpad doesn't seems flat.  hmm.gif

So, do you play games?  brows.gif

You also have the same touchpad uneven problem. It sound like a quality issue then. I thought Japanese is very particular about their product quality.

Seldom play game. I am a WWII fan. So my fav is Sudden-Strike!

Anybody did the creation of Recovery Media before? If I use an USB flash-drive for this, how big the size do I need? 8GB or 16GB?

E-14P and S-series is quite close in term of price point mainly because E-14P comes with a higher resolution screen and slightly bigger max memory support(up to 16GB). Other than that S-series win it flat-out, as shown below:
1. Processor. S-series is with the latest Ivy-Bridge Core i5 processors. E-series is based on older 2nd gen i5.
2. GPU. As Amal mentioned, S-Series equipped with a "dragon" GPU, nVidia!!
3. Battery. S-series is with more durable and higher capacity Polymer Li-ion battery pack.
4. Lightweight. S-series is 30% lighter.
5. Build. S-series is solid build.
6. Design. S-series is more professional looks.
7. Vaio+ display. More friendly to your eye on long hours use.

Anybody care to add more?! nod.gif

My S-series is fixed price at rm3299. I got extra gifts : Buffalo 500gb Ministation USB Hdd + Sony Audio Headset + 4GB Ram upgrade + 2nd year warranty(dealer) + Sony premium gift-set + Sony notebook bag. Thats all.

Rhoel, You "eat" memory!! Then you need to go down to Singapore to get the bigger 8GB SODIMM.

If not mistaken, these freebies are only given during PC Fair. Thats what the dealer sales-guy told me. Either I take it or leave it and regret later!

I was also considering a Macbook Pro. But some how this sales guy managed to convince me it was a great deal to be ignored. Especially the +1 year warranty. At least peace of mind for 2 years!

vaio t and vaio s , which one better ? im looking for slim , portable and long lasting battery life...vaio t looks tempting to me  drool.gif

This is my finding when I was shopping for a Vaio and ended with a Vaio S series:

1. Intel Processor Speed. Vaio-S is with 2.5GHz Core-i5. Vaio-T is with 1.7GHz Core-i5(design for ultrabook for energy saving purpose).

2. Discrete Graphic Card. Vaio-S is with 1GB nVidia discrete GPU. Vaio-T is using Intel onboard HD4000 that uses 512MB of main memory.

3. Battery life. Vaio-S rated at 6hrs. Vaio-T is rated at 4hrs only.

4. DVD-drive. Vaio-S got. Vaio-T is without.

5. Stamina mode : Vaio-S has this switch. Vaio-T does not.

6. Audio Technology : Vaio-S has Dolby Home Theater v4 + xLoud. Vaio-T only has xLoud.

The Dolby Home Theater v4 when enabled make the Celine Dion audio-track sound like singing in my head!! Very awesome.

Vaio S 13.3" at 1.7kg already very light weight.
