hehe or i think u mess with your phone too much especially x-terminal. I am currently running at 900mhz. Everything seems to be alright.

Probably to minimise the risk of them getting sued lol. The Cortex ARM A6 can handle up to 850Mhz in daily use officially IINM, but why run at the very limit and risk 5% bad batch lemons dying off, when you can limit it to 600Mhz and lower that risk to near negligable? Silicone is finicky, some run well at specs, some do not.

Less people will sue you.

That's why we overclock. If your chip can handle the extra stresses, it'll be fine. It not, things start to break.Early warning signs of silicone breakage include, system instability, graphics artefects, constant reboots lalalalala.

These are the minor side effects of overclocking. The final result, if you don't listen to the warning signs, are not careful and are unlucky, is silicone meltdown aka your CPU dying.

And yeah, I guess I live in Xterm a little bit too much, ever since my Ubuntu days too. What to do, I guess I like CLIs a bit too much eh. I grew up living in DOS, what to do?

Sorry for not being clear on that. YES, if you use XLV, Ideal, ULV, LV or Starving profiles - you WILL save battery, because lower voltages are used.

But which one will work for you best, that's trial and error. Some profiles might cause your N900 to restart often, because of voltages that are too low.

ULV profile set to 250-600mhz is a good place to start for battery saving (because Ideal doesn't do 250 too well I've read). If that is stable (no restarts and other funny stuff) you can try XLV next, maybe 250-500mhz.

I'm currently on Starving 250-500mhz most of the time, with shortcuts set to push that up to 500-900 when ever needed.

The flasher way is also official release. It's release by Nokia.

Just that it's the manual method.

NSU and OTA is the easier method, but it has higher possibility of failure. When fail, you still have to use back the manual (flasher) way. So, even if you choose to use OTA or NSU, no harm downloading the firmware in your PC first, in case something happen, you don't have to wait for the download.

OTA will require enough rootfs space, else you'll get "not enough memory" error.

NSU way, you will still need to redownload and reinstall all the apps again. It's the same as flasher tool, except it's wizard/UI based. flasher tool is console based. They're actually pretty much the same thing.

True, those early N900 owners should have this experience, when update to PR1.1.1... some users which update through OTA face some reboot loop problems and end up have to revert to the flasher tool.

Yes agree with u. I also do the same. I have a lot of application installed but after flash i just install application that compitable with pr1.2. if u see under appman then edit maemo u will see fremantle-1.2 before it use fremantle only. I just restore contact, sms and bookmark only.

its something similar to pcsuite backup difference is u can do it on the phone itself.

After that it will create a folder called backup. Copy the entire folder out of the phone for backup purpose. Wanna restore copy that back into root folder directory
