QUOTE(htt @ Apr 26 2010, 05:27 PM) For me, I don't like Pantech, think they lock in low margin products and might be easily beaten out by China companies... IMHO... but still on the net profit side.. see what they are going to plan up next to improve on that.. Most of the silent reader has reporting themself.. pretty cool to welcome all to be active once again .. alright.. got to go for work now.. adios and until the next day... see you all and have a good rest ... I have been looking into this counter too yesteday and have studied a bit but not in detail. Wanted to buy in this morning but opening was already 1.26! The dividend is high @ 15 cents/share first interim divvy. Since few years ago, this counter has been giving high divvy, comparable to Reits, at least 9 %!!!!! But, only one thing worries me is that it is about 75% owned by Syed Mokthar Bukhary and that he wanted to buy over the shares at 0.80 about 3 yrs ago. Does this mean he can easily control and depress the share price of this counter whenever he wants to buy-out? This counter deals in the water tariffs in Johor. Any comments? I had TWS Plant bought at 2.70 . Offered to take private at rm 2.78. Sold at 2.78 subsequently TWS plant re-offered at rm 3.80 to take private . I think it was not done , otherwise TWS plant would not be listed today. The other was TWS corp offered to take private at rm 1.1 during the boom time. If you buy his stocks, mostly he would cap the price at low during the boom time by offering to take them into private. The other one you could see is Zelan, from Cash full to cashless, and losing money. Just sharing my bad experience. This post has been edited by SKY 1809: Apr 27 2010, 12:03 AM |

"Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd declared final dividend of 7.5 sen per MYR 0.50 share less Malaysian income tax"
hi, i'm newbie here. Hope to get guidance from sifus here. What the above sentence mean? What is "less Malaysian income tax"?? 7.5 sen per 0.50 share. If the share price is 5.00, means dividend = 7.5 * 10 = 75 sen. Is this correct?? |

Just ignore the par value.
If you got 1000unit of Carlsberg shares, you'll get 7.5 X1000 = $75.00. M'sia tax =25%. So, your div will be deducted 25% which you'll get $56.25. If you're personal income tax is less than 25%, you'll get rebate when you file your income tax next year. Div yield is 7.5/5 = 1.5% (assuming you bought at $5.00) QUOTE(g_gambler2000 @ Apr 27 2010, 08:31 AM) "Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd declared final dividend of 7.5 sen per MYR 0.50 share less Malaysian income tax" hi, i'm newbie here. QUOTE(g_gambler2000 @ Apr 27 2010, 08:31 AM) "Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd declared final dividend of 7.5 sen per MYR 0.50 share less Malaysian income tax" Nothing to do with share price, if you hold 1,000 share, then the gross dividend is 1,000*7.5sen=RM75, after deducting 25% tax (tax rate should be correct, I not sure about that), nett dividend should be RM75*75%=RM56.25. Less Malaysian income tax mean minus of headline tax of Malaysia, which is the corporate tax rate (25% if not mistaken). For tax resident and company, somehow can claim back some, you might want to go to the FAQ or beginner tread for more info.hi, i'm newbie here. Hope to get guidance from sifus here. QUOTE(chyaw @ Apr 27 2010, 08:39 AM) Just ignore the par value. OK. Understood.... thanks a lotIf you got 1000unit of Carlsberg shares, you'll get 7.5 X1000 = $75.00. M'sia tax =25%. So, your div will be deducted 25% which you'll get $56.25. If you're personal income tax is less than 25%, you'll get rebate when you file your income tax next year. Div yield is 7.5/5 = 1.5% (assuming you bought at $5.00) |

Top Glove proposes bonus issue
Top Glove, the world's largest rubber glove manufacturer, proposes to undertake a bonus issue of up to 348m new shares of RM0.50 each. It also proposes to increase its authorised share capital from RM200m comprising 400m shares to RM400m comprising 800m shares. The proposed bonus issue shall be wholly capitalised from the company's share premium. It expects the proposal to be completed by the 3Q of 2010. (Bernama) Comments: We view the bonus issue positively as not only it will increase the stock liquidity but signaling higher earnings ahead. Hence, the dilution effect would be minimal. We keep our Market Perform as the consensus PER is high at 15x === Also attaching Daily Trading Pick : TGOFFS (7228) as Short-Term Buy. Attached File(s)

QUOTE(qqmeng @ Apr 27 2010, 02:14 PM) Probably those seminars organized by your investment bank?Kawan-kawan, for those that are in KNM, this is what Alex Lu have to say on 19th April.. QUOTE I have commented a few times on KNM. It has broken the very strong horizontal support at RM0.70 last Thursday. It is likely to slide further to test the next support at RM0.60 & then at RM0.50. The best time to sell was when the stock broke below the RM0.70 level. After that, an investor with the stock will go through his personal Battle of the Somme. If you cut loss now, the stock may rebound. If you hold on, the stock may drop further. At each support level, there may be a small rebound. Since you are carrying a bit of paper losses, you hesitate to sell into the rebound. Instead you average down when the rebound started to frizzle out. Your position would become larger. This situation would go on & on & it can wear you down. I know because I have seen it many times before. Before you decide on your next course action, just think through it logically. Bear in mind, the loss did not happen when you finally cut off the position. The loss has already happened earlier. You are only trying to mitigate yourself. If your position is a small position, you can just ride it through. KNM is not a PN17 stock. It is a reasonably profitable company, which reported a net profit of RM171 million on turnover of RM1.82 billion for FYE31/12/2009. The share price may come back up after a while. Market sentiment is very poor at the moment and it's not easy to see why....
Good financial results. EPS numbers up, BIs and good divvies even under-valued stocks are drifting slowly downwards.... Very weird...... Just wonder why anyone would sell down perfectly good counters at way below their true value.....where are they putting the cash?? Under the bed???? |

EPS numbers up, BIs and good divvies even under-valued stocks are drifting slowly downwards.... Very weird...... Just wonder why anyone would sell down perfectly good counters at way below their true value.....where are they putting the cash?? Under the bed???? Some of the reason. We have - Potential China bubble, and severe tightening needed. If not lead the current real estate bubble going, soon and later, something not good will happen. - Gov need to pull back all/most stimulus as most gov are running at high deficit across. - China RMB revaluation issue. RMB revaluation is imminent, and with "made in China' goods is everywhere now, revaluation means goods price will be higher eventually inflation is definitly on the card now. Basically, market worry about sustainability issue. As current better economy and environment is not built on solid fundamental on its own. Investors nowadays are more demanding and clever. Making good profit, but no good or no generous dividend, then people won't be happy enough. |

hmm.. if China revalue RMB higher... is it likely they will lose a lot of money from their earlier investment all over the world ? because that time RMB was much cheaper back then....
on top of that... their current business may earn less or even see losses if RMB revalues higher... This post has been edited by mopster: Apr 27 2010, 03:44 PM |

It is not as bad as it looks.
Why foreign investors are not so interested is because we have one of the highest P/E in the region, so they want to focus on the countries with better bargains first. |

Wa lao eh......Just only managed to have some time log in and see my portfolio all red except for that one rubber counter...
And so many ppl wondering why sentiment so bad. Besides what Cherroy wrote, i think investors are still jittery over US Financial regulation revamp & Greek debt issue. Furthermore, not sure if war is brewing in the North and what impact there will be if Conservatives win in UK. |

Look how RM appreciated lately due to speculation of RMB issue as well as others reason. You want a strong economy, then you must adopt a strong currency. Property bubble in China is a truth, a condo in Shanghai cost them few million RMB, but the resident income just a tiny. If RMB revalue now may cause it blow immediately, if not revalue now, the bubble will go bigger. but it look not so effective |

QUOTE(StupidGuyPlayComp @ Apr 27 2010, 04:09 PM) Property bubble in China is a truth, a condo in Shanghai cost them few million RMB, but the resident income just a tiny. If RMB revalue now may cause it blow immediately, if not revalue now, the bubble will go bigger. but it look not so effective They have increased the bank reserves requirement several times and drastically, but no move on interest rate front. Properties bubbles if left being and not being tackled quickly and become bigger and bigger, it is a very dangerous situation. Look at how Japan property bubbles cause Japan economy to stagnant almost 2 decades. Look at how US real estate bubbles nearly lead to collapse of financial system. |

But I have a different opinion on RMB revaluation.
If RMB is revalued higher, until the extent of work force is not cheap anymore, factories will flock over to Cambodia, vietnam etc for their cheap labour force. And China cant afford that, without those "Made in China" factories, many will lose their job. So i think RMB is not be revalued that drastically. (until they are able to sustain the economy without relying too heavily on manufacturing) This post has been edited by ashiezai: Apr 27 2010, 04:28 PM |

QUOTE(qqmeng @ Apr 27 2010, 05:29 PM) a reform of accounting std ...FRS Not actually. FRS is just modified way of accounting delivery. last time i called it as "historical accounting" .. everything based on historical cost... now they implement fair value ... into the accounting standards... seriously even till now lots of accountants in malaysia are having problem updating themself... standard (FRS) like financial instrument etc... is really a bomb!! Just we must more scrutinise the P&L figure in the future. Always must look at operational P&L. FRS is needed to reveal the actual situation what currently company worth. We need to consider that, when a company buy or invest ABC share in KLSE, the company bought at RM1.00. But ABC share now only RM0.10. The FRS will reveal the loss of investment made aka company make a loss of RM0.90. In old standard, company can still book in or register as cost of RM1.00, without affecting company P&L. So the old standard is actually not revealing the real situation. While if ABC share now become Rm2.00, company will register Rm1.00 profit. So with FRS being adopted, we could see some volatile figure on their final P&L. But one can always scrutinise the operation P&L part, which generally what market concern the most. |

If I have not mistaken, the old one required a company to write down to the lower of cost or market value. WHICHEVER IS LOWER.Just we must more scrutinise the P&L figure in the future. It is always there. Now it is said to be FAIR, paper gain needs to be reflected too. And the Fairer of all, all go through the Profit and Loss A/c , similar to operating profit. Corrects/Updates me if I am wrong. This post has been edited by SKY 1809: Apr 27 2010, 06:30 PM |

Hehe... actually no 'right size' bank exist in this wold... same like people trying to buy at lowest point and sell at highest... IMHO, government should put strict regulation in place & enforced... No like letting banks run amok then only restrict the size... that always appear to be 亡羊补牢,better thing to do should be maintain the cage well so the lamb won't escape.Nowaday we have Super CEOs for super large companies. CIMB latest TA for CI.........
US markets: US indices suffered their worst percentage loss in more than two months after downgrades to the sovereign debt of Greece and Portugal. The Dow Jones lost 213.0pts (-1.9%) to 10,992.0, the Nasdaq retreated 51.5pts (-2.0%) to 2,471.5, whilst the S&P500 fell 28.3pts (-2.3%) to settle at 1,183.7 Asian markets: Asian indices ended mixed on Tuesday. Japanese shares inched higher, erasing earlier losses, as investors picked up stocks with higher earnings guidance. The Nikkei rose 46.9pts (+0.4%) to finish at 11,212.7. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and China shares fell on renewed concerns that the recent measures by Beijing to curb domestic property prices could lead to a slowdown in the mainland economy. The Hang Seng Index lost 325.3pts (-1.5%) to close at 21,261.8, while the Shanghai Composite Index gave up 61.6pts (-2.1%) to finish at 2,907.9. Singapore shares ended the day lower as the STI retreated 10.9pts (-0.4%) to close at 2,991.7. Malaysia: Market lacked positive catalyst to keep the bulls afloat. At day’s end, the FBMKLCI shed 0.35pts to 1,339.72. Sentiment was broadly weaker, partly due to the sluggish performance on the regional front. Financials like Public, CIMB and AMMB led the market lower while profit taking on selected blue chips also caused investors to stay sidelined. Meanwhile, technology stocks also came under pressure after recent surge. Volume was modest with 975m shares worth RM1.2bn traded. Losers outstripped advancers by a margin of 2.8:1, while another 308 counters remained unchanged. Expect the local market to stay weak as sentiments remain gloomy after downgrades to European sovereign debts. FBMKLCI Chart & Summary The FBMKLCI hovered in the negative territory throughout the day but losses were narrowed at day’s end on late buying support. The benchmark continues to struggle near the 1,340 level. Traders should remain cautious as prices will likely stay volatile in the near term, until the Mar 08 gap of 1,344-1,354 is filled. For now, there is a minor resistance at 1,343, while further gains would be capped at 1,360 next. Looking at the chart, we still cannot totally eliminate the short term negative view on the index but selling should be well-contained unless the 1,320 support is breached. |

Correction is pretty much inevitable.

Can you post the reason why you're interested instead just ask us for comments?
It it at least more value added to other forumers. I just did a rough glance... profit margin super low, ROA also super low. PER also low, but it didn't pass my selection criteria to reseach more. QUOTE(nizaas @ Apr 28 2010, 09:41 AM) |

Also good enough for bargain hunting ? I think more discount should be coming. CI is still at 1330. Wait till 1320 breaks. Wait till 1300 breaks...then more discount ma. Cash is king.

You need to state the reasons, then it is easier for us to analyze the potential of the counter. my friend last week was highly recommended by his remisier that Scomi will rise to 0.7X! Good thing that lower liners start to give good dividends in the current trend.
They do not give face to the blue chips like Genting. |

QUOTE(motorhead @ Apr 28 2010, 09:40 AM) can anyone explain why stock market drop today in laymen way? i m noob la read news also cnt understand.. China gomen hit hard on property speculation, Tier 1 property drop 10% in one day yesterday, triggered a selling panic in China now. Shanghai market dop 2%yesterday.Last night S&P downgrade Greece and Portugal bonds grade to junk status. Spain and Ireland grade could be downgraded also, it spells doom to Euro sector. Greece has a total of 10 billion Euros redemption due 19 May, if EU aid is not coming, Greece is bankcrupt. Yesterday, Greece, Spain and France workers went on strike, pouring salt to the wound. Looks like KLCI is the least afected market in the world toay, malaysia BOLEH. |

Guys, look carefully about MBF holdings, just read that the 10c divvy was rejected by its chairman
MBF'S PROPOSED PRIVATISATION REJECTED AT EGM Bernama - Wednesday, April 28SendIM StoryPrint.KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- MBf Holdings Bhd shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) today, rejected the proposal to take the group private. This means, the group will not be able to undertake a selective capital reduction (SCR) as well as accelerate and cancel its warrants (WAC), which would otherwise see shareholders getting 65 sen per share and five sen for each warrant. In a statement here, MBf said its major shareholder, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Ninian Mogan Lourdenadin did not also support a proposal to issue a final dividend of 10 sen per ordinary share of RM1 each for the financial year ended December 31, 2010, since the proposed plan was not carried at the EGM.Lourdenadin, who is MBf Group's Chief Executive Officer, also spoke on behalf of the major shareholders who hold a 79.12 per cent stake in MBf, and had last January, sent in a proposal to delist the group. The major shareholders are Nadin Holdings Sdn Bhd, of which Lourdenadin is also the chairman, Impact Action Sdn Bhd, Market Share Investments Ltd and Tor Private Ltd. The group also said it had obtained approval from Bursa Malaysia to extend the time to rectify its public shareholding spread to until August 31. Last March 10, MBf's board of directors had agreed to consider the recommendation of independent adviser, Public Investment Bank Bhd, to table both the SCR and WAC proposals to shareholders. Lourdenadin, on behalf of the major shareholders, had also then explained that the privatisation would give minority shareholders an opportunity to exit and realise their investment and for warrant holders to monetise their holdings which have been 'out-of-the-money' since its listing in 2003. However, the Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group (MSWG) has called for a greater scrutinisation of the plan and asked that minority shareholders be given a chance to exit at a fairer price. -- BERNAMA . |

something to share with all of you.
DJ MARKET TALK: STI Off 1.5%; 'Run First, Think Later' -Analyst -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0441 GMT [Dow Jones] Pullback in Singapore shares fails to generate bargain-hunting as investors unsure how Europe's sovereign debt problems will pan out following Standard & Poor's rating downgrades. STI down 1.5% at 2947.02 midday, barely above last week's low of 2943, which still stands as immediate support. All FTSE ST sub-indexes remain negative, with market breadth at six decliners for every gainer. "What we saw yesterday on the news of Greece's downgrade is a sudden shift from risk appetite to risk aversion. Akin to someone shouting 'fire' in a crowded cinema, it provokes a 'run first, think later' reaction," says Phillip Securities analyst Phua Ming-Weii. On brighter note, volume light at 906.9 million shares, suggesting selling pressure contained. Rig builders, Singapore Exchange (S68.SG), Fraser & Neave (F99.SG), Jardine group lead decline among blue chips. (frankie.ho@dowjones.com) |

QUOTE(zWinceZz @ Apr 28 2010, 12:51 PM) no idea though, maybe they also need to go financial site to check their salary and bonus....hahaha Can talk more on SGX liao. STI stock Transpac at a glance: PE 3.4, EPS 0.482, NAV 1.81, current price 1.66 .... UOBkayhian downgrade from BUY to HOLD at target price 3.06 on 21 April 2010.... Did i see wrongly or what, $0.10 dividend per share expire on 3 May 2010 at current price of 1.66?? 6% of final TE dividend... Koret,10 cents divvy, last one was 40 cent. Earning fluctuates too much, mostly derived from investments aka speculation,Manufacturing only contributes around 18m to the profit IIRC. This company function more like a Hedge Fund to me.Big up big down, decided to shelve it. |

And no, she is not from Stock Market thread. May she rest in peace. Sorry for the OT. *quiet mode* |

Can we expect everytime the debt default flow to another country, the markets will expect to tank?
First Greece in January, then now in April, Greece debt become junk and Portugal downgraded.... After all the hoo-hah die down, market will rise up again...den when the time come another re-rating for the sovereign bond, market tank again... Added on April 28, 2010, 2:59 pm QUOTE(StupidGuyPlayComp @ Apr 28 2010, 02:49 PM) Now only 20% cash...not sure if wanna up the ratio yet.... QUOTE(StupidGuyPlayComp @ Apr 28 2010, 02:49 PM) ok.. just my opinion/guess :Scenario1: lots of companies will confirm final divvy/BI come May... price should also peak that time... so thats a good time to cash out wait for divvy/bonus exdate and buy back at lower price.. Scenario2: from what i learned from other posts... Fund Managers/traders like to go on holiday around this time.. so market will be like dead fish... furthermore.. world cup is around the corner... Scenario3: Unconfirmed rumour with no source... Correction in May after US earnings seasons over ? Fund Managers start to portfolio rebalancing for June reporting or window dressing ? honestly.. whether 1,2,3 ... i wont be affected too much like 100% cash or 100% stock.. just "see one step.. move one step, with my long term goal intact" |

Anyone is interested in oversea bank share?
well...maybe is the time i can proof that it works in the oversea market that i have been long traded.. If u guy "sien" with Malaysia market.. come on board with me in oversea market offcourse has bought lower price in this counter. as i have foreseen for sometimes ago, it will really earn lots of money in the future as the banking will not die so fast in the oversea. and lots of result has been proven and is time for me to recommend this share to u all... in 2008, it has been shorted sell till low and been picked up since that time and went on the right issue and traded low again. anyhow. visit the website below and read with confident. London exchange market. llodys.l http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbys...-the-black.html is cheap. and sooner it will be like HSBC. keep for long.. no eyes to see. no need to bother. for those who are traded on the year of 1960. ... 4th June.. China case.. HSBC traded at HK$6.00 . Anyone who kept this share ? hahha. i believe lots of malaysian has this share with hand... is a history..is a wealth. year 2010.. history repeated. this is the case where everything started with zero again. bye. |

Senate point of view - You people at Goldman Sachs think only about profit profit and profit. You would even sell s***ty stuff to anyone, eventhough you know it was s***ty and then make a bundle of profit. Don't you have any ethics?? GS point of view - Our clients request to trade in different financial instruments of varying risks. Our job was just to managed those risks for our customers and Goldman Sachs. Eventually our main job is to make profit for the company. We have no idea which direction the market would move, we could have lost as much as we gained. And our company does stress on ethics. Two different points of view, but GS stands firm that what they did was correct. Ooooh CI is -6 plus, i got 3 yellow counters & 1 green....Remainder all red.... Two different points of view, but GS stands firm that what they did was correct. Ooooh CI is -6 plus, i got 3 yellow counters & 1 green....Remainder all red.... |

QUOTE(mopster @ Apr 28 2010, 05:09 PM) thats just the appetizer... wait for FOMC tonight.. but EU markets will be closed by then... FOMC keeping interest rates unchanged may not help market though....But i might be wrong....Markets nowadays react at different levels to different stimuli.... Portugal stocks pounded... Greece bans short selling... Haha...I was just thinking that now got two types of stimulus in the market.... The long term issues, such as China credit controls, China uncertainty of Property Bubble, PIIGS issue, US Financial Regulatory changes. They don't get solved overnight, but just linger there to emerge after awhile to drive the markets down. The periodic reports, such as FOMC meeting, Earnings Report, Jobs Data, Inventory Report, currently quite positive due to expected recovery. So weekly or fortnightly or monthly these reports would come up and give some boost to the markets. So we get a vicious cycle....up, up, up on periodic reports then one big down when one or some of the long term issues emerge... Just sharing my 2 cents. |

This Euro melt-down is going to continue I think. The ECB and the Germans have been dragging their feet over a rescue package for the Club O'Med countries.
And that has hit the Euro badly. Of course, as one of the world's top export economies, it is in the Germans' interests to have a weak Euro..... |

QUOTE(chyaw @ Apr 28 2010, 09:19 PM) I'm actually not too worried about the Eurozone problems.....I mean, it's not like it's a huge surprise - is it? The markets have known about these sovereign debt risks for over a year now. The problem is that with 27 member states of the EU they are not responding rapidly enough to the situation as it develops - or to market concerns... As an example: the EU has called an "urgent" "crisis" meeting to finalise the Greek bail out. The date? May 10th!! This post has been edited by David_Brent: Apr 28 2010, 09:29 PM |
