I think Kevin Davies deserves a place in this list. He doesn't get many goals but he often leads the line alone, providing a physical presence up-front for Bolton. He is a good header of the ball and his ability to hold up the ball, draws others into the game. Bolton are not known for their pretty football and Davies is a big reason why they are deadly from setpieces and long balls.

I'm not so sure I'd classify Saha as being underrated. He was recognised for being prolific for Fulham, which I imagine is the reason Man Utd signed him. The fact that the richest club in the world wants you makes it a little hard for you to be under the radar. He has also represented France. If anything I think he will have underachieved by the end of his career because of injuries. Similarly, Eidur Gudjohnsen played for Chelsea and Barcelona, not small clubs by any stretch of the imagination. He just isn't a popular topic of conversation on these threads is all.
Zamora is having arguably his best season but in years before, I've seen him waste some guilt edge opportunities, bar his somewhat fortuitous goal against us a couple of seasons ago. Just like Bent, I'm not too keen on rating a guy unless he performs well consistently.

Eh are we looking at underrated or overrated players?
Guivarch was a flop, vastly overrated especially since he just won the World Cup before signing for Newcastle. Beckford was rated by fans to be amongst the top 3 players in the Championship this season in the recent edition of FourFourTwo.

Well I wouldn't lump players no one here has heard of as being underrated. Back on the topic of Guivarch however, he did enough to earn a place in the 98 World Cup squad. Unfortunately for him, he only scored 1 goal and made only 14 appearances, a fact that leads me to believe that some quarters expected more out of him and he disappointed. He was 27 at the time and should have been in his prime. Newcastle took a gamble on him and he made just 4 appearances. It's facts like these that led me to believe he wasn't worth the hype. He may have scored lost of goals in the French 1st Division early in his career but he never made an impact in bigger, tougher leagues. Some players never do. Cisse scored heaps of goals in France and is still doing so in Greece but there is serious doubt if he can do the same in bigger leagues. He didn't when we has at Liverpool and it seems none of the big sides in Europe figure he ever will.
We can agree to disagree but for the reasons stated above, I never rated Guivarch. One striker I did underrate however was Miroslav Klose. Prior to the 2006 World Cup, I thought he could only score with his head but in that World Cup, he showed he had good feet and scored with both in that campaign.

QUOTE(FauxHawk @ May 1 2010, 12:38 PM) Plus I think he is highly rated, well at least by everyone except Glenn Hoddle. Unfortunately for him, England's midfield was brimming with talent at the time. Think David Platt, Steve McMahon, Paul Ince, Paul Gascoigne, Bryan Robson. That being said, I still think he should have got more England caps.
