Now this sucks... I'm able to beat any class (there are a few hard one but it's still possible) 1 on 1 but a Hunter is near to impossible for me...
Usually when the duel starts I go into stealth, the Hunter will flare and set up traps around him, making me impossible to attack. This makes approaching a bit hard but still possible, I sprinted to him and opened with Cheap Shot -> Multilate til 4/5 CP -> Kidney Shot.
Now here's the tricky part, usually the Hunter will trinket out of my Kidney Shot and Nitro Boost away (my Sprint is used to approach) and summon bunch of snakes with his pet attacking me, causing a lot of slows/stuns. Now I'd trinket this but I'm kinda stuck at this part, what I can imagine doing is to approach the hunter and disarm him and aim for another Kidney Shot but I've already used up my Sprint, there's no other method to get near already and his pet with snakes will slow me down, Preparation is not worth mentioning here since it has 10 minutes CD, which wasn't even on for most of the time.
Worst come to worst, Rogue's strategy revolves around re-stealth which won't work with Mark of the Hunter...... crap.
The only chance I'd see is not to approach with Sprint and wait for the Hunter to get bored and come out from his heavily guarded castle... which will be a test of patience

based on what you said:
- 2 sets of CD vs 2 sets, mainly 2x deterrance. PRAY HARD the hunter's noob and wont know how to flare himself and maintains it (during combat that is)
unless you both agreed to not used prep on both sides. for the sake of less typing, ill just assume you both did
- forget restealthing, he got a pet, mark, flare. too much effort
- improve sap outta flare is ur friend, ideally, do a countdown on flare, sap when its almsot over, then once you got ur sap, wait till flare is over, be quick on ur keys to sap pet > CS hunter or have a macro for it.
note: instantly blind pet 1 sec before sap breaks, dont wait till it does. cuz if the hunter is autocasting pin/charge, considering its AI based, you'll always be slower than it with latency considered
- open with CS, 1 mutilate = 5 combo (please get intiative or at least have enough crit to ensure 3cp mutis), kidneyshot after, if he trinkets, pay CLOSE ATTENTION if he instantly deterrance, if not, disarm him, else, aim for a vanish > cheapshot >and disarm when cheapshot is about to fade. if he does not trinket, you pretty much bagged the match as ur DP will be stacking for envenom spams. regardless, disarm when kidney is fading for good measure.
also, pop evasion regardless if the hunter is going to trinket ur kidney or not, high chance he would to prevent poison stackings, and having evasion up would increase ur chance to miss critical shots such as stings/concuss, mainly stings so you dont need to waste cloak if you want to vanish restealth later
- if he speed boots, you do the same, deadly throw if you need to, or vanish restealth (cancels off mark too, not flare though) into cheapshot
- when you see green trap is being laid (hunters can throw/lay traps now in front of ur face), save the energy for FOK, once snake spawns, FOK > cloak of shadows.
- a key to counter deterrance is cheapshot, if he does it, try to vanish RS > cheapshot into kidneys. if not, you'll have to tough it out with evasion. chances are if everything goes as i say, he will be doing deterrance disarmed/stunned/poisoned enough for you to shrug it off, and finish the kill.
- at this point ur cooldowns are spent, if you still get concuss/pin/frost or freezing or snake traps/disengaged, its pretty much over if the hunter's not retarded. thats why, prep. you got more cooldowns than he does on deterrance. trade vanish > deter. is the concept here
p/s: if you think hunter's hard, you should duel (lol duels) priest/druid healers, frost mages, protection/tanking specced plates (warr/dk/pala) or even feral bear tank druids, thats the true meaning of hopelessness.
