HD 228 is a closed earpiece type. outside ppl can't hear what ur listening while the hd 238 is an open back type. overall both are nearly similar with the hd 238 having the upper hand. hope this helps.

The HD 558 has superior soundstage compare to hd 555. and you can mod it to sound nearly similar to hd 598. just you tube it. one fo the cheapest audiophile grad headphones out there
