I posted this in the Amp/DAC recommendation thread I guess I'll post here again.

Going to pick up my Sennheiser HD800 today from Jaben. Which of these two amps complements/drives/powers the HD800 nicely? GoVibe Porta Tube or Just Audio AHA-120? OR are there any other alternatives?

I'm aiming for portable/transportable configuration now, as my work requires me to travel and move around. Not listening on the go, or while walking around town, but transporting the setup to and from locations and listening once arriving at said location. Hence the need for portable/transportable setup.

I primarily listens to jazz, R&B, classical with the occasional rock and pop(retro). Also, I will be using this setup to watch movies on laptops. My old Headamp Pico should suffice as a DAC should I need a clean digital signal for that.

TIA for your advice/recommendations.

Have you actually listened to the HD800 before you ordered it in Jaben? Because based on your musical preference, the HD800 really doesn't suit it well. The normal consensus for the HD800 is for listeners who listen to Orchestra/Opera, full time. I honestly feel that with your music taste, you would be better off with a Beyerdynamic T1.

But if you did try the HD800 prior to this and still like it, here is what i have to say about the question you hvae asked. Firstly, i feel that ALL flagship headphones should not be driven by portable amps. But if you must, i would suggest you using a semi portable amp.

I would suggest either the Burson Audio HA-160 Amp, MAYBE the Graham Slee, or the Tiny Tube DAC. Bear in mind also that amp pairings to go with the very niche HD800 are hard to come by, what more portable amp pairings.

Thanks joshuachew and hongrui!

Yes, I've listened to the HD800 while in Frankfurt, and quite smitten by it. Granted, it was running classical only at the time, and on tube amp I cant recall the brand of, so I wouldn't know how it would sound on my other preferred genres or on other portable amps.

So it looks like either I upgrade my home setup and stay homebound, or abandon the dream of a transportable setup from the way it was advised by you two.

I've read the same pairing recommendation about the Burson Audio on HeadFi. The reason I was semi-hopeful was the Headfonia review on the Just Audio AHA-120, that made me think it was possible to do the transportable setup.

I hate the fitment of the Audeze, and have tried the T1 and hadn't really got me thinking day and night to get it.

Sigh, looks like it's a no go for me. But I should thank you two for saving me from an investment that I might well regret later on. Thanks guys!

Yes, you should have been informed about these things when you stated your intentions to purchase these kind of flagship headphones. Well, that what a responsible seller would do anyway. My advise has always been this, flagship headphones, besides the T5p, (which is a portable flagship), should be used at home with a proper desktop setup. Then only would you get the full performance for the price you paid for. A flagship headphone driven by a portable set up would just sound like a mid end headphone driven with the same set up. So you might be better off buying a mid end headphone. But for portable use, I'd recommend customs. wink.gif

Because, why not?
I see HD800 as a masterpiece of art, and I was literally crazy for it. So I bought a second pair to "keep" it. But after a while I realized that's kind of crazy so...lol.

I remember the time where I owned 4 Shure SE535's for the same reason too, but anyway, if you are selling, do keep me informed. wink.gif

Hey guys, I clicked this topic because I just recently bought a Sennheisier HD202-ii for my personal use. I don't use it all the time but I do wear it for music while playing drums.

I saw some of the conversation regarding amps, should I get one as well?

Thanks peeps
*
To use while you're playin drums?

Hi to All Sifu,
Did anyone own a Sennheiser Momentum ?>
Any Review for this Baby ?
*
Yeap own the Momentum and managed to try it against the M100 from V-Moda and preferred the Momentum by miles. The momentum is just ultra silky smooth while the V-Moda gave me a headache in 5 mins. But they're both performing on the same level just what sound you want.

Typo error, it is "should have no problem with low impedance headphone"
*
LOL shocking.gif
There was a lot of controversy about the 22-ohm output impedance as this is quite high for headphones, especially low-impedance IEMs.
So which was your typo? thumbup.gif

lol you bought the momentum too =)
i got the black red since the brown was out of stock.. brown would be classy while black red more retro..
mine is still sealed in box, still wondering if i should stick with it or swap for the brown
*
i have seen both and honestly find the brown to be nicer. I would like the black one more if only it had black cables instead of red. But thats just me though.

i know, i don't fancy the beats like red cables either... was actually looking around if there are any black/brown cables for sale, but then again it won't change the red cables at the top part =.=

but the brown pads are more prone to getting black, and while i try to treat my gears with care i'm quite lazy in maintaining them lol
*
You could keep the black one and buy the black replacement cable for the brown units from Sennheiser Malaysia.

When I had both in hand to try it in Stereo Singapore, I swapped the cables and it looked very handsome. smile.gif

You go down to Singapore often don't you, drop by Stereo at Ion. and you can order the cables from Sennheiser Malaysia, they're no longer in Capsquare but now in Jaya One.

unfortunately i don't go to SG often, but serious? Sennheiser Malaysia moved to Jaya One? They didn't even announce in their FB page! but that's very convenient for me haha
*
Yes, Stringfellow bought his Momentums from there. We found out together that it shifted there cause we called Sennheiser Malaysia and they led us there. I don't think that its Sennheiser Malaysia but its one of their dealers/resellers.

Wow, you guys would go all the way just for a piece of different colored cable eh? sweat.gif Black actually gives me an impression of modernness and the dash of red for a hint of coolness cool.gif

I have gone to greater lengths for alot less.

Do they have ready spare momentum cables?

I am not sure about that, but when I wanted to buy a spare Momentum case, all I had to do was place an order. They bring it in from Singapore.

QUOTE(John6 @ Feb 8 2014, 08:31 PM)
Had heard good things bout the momentum, just had the chance to audition a pair of on ear momentum at Jaben and my oh my why have I not discovered the momentum sooner? I was really amazed at the sound, very fun with great bass, felt that the bass was better controlled compared to my HFI-580 and without the sibilance i find annoying with the Ultrasone, really good for EDM.

Never thought an on ear could sound so impressive, the performance does justify the price tag. Guess i got stung by the Momentum poison haha, gonna get myself a pair soon, but are there any sonic differences between the on ear and over ear version? Thanks
*
The On Ear version is more bassy. And in my ears, too bassy it's going down the beats road. The momentum to me is just a little little more than optimum quantity for me so it's alright. And I love bass by the way. Nice good bass.
