u mean HD700 is cheaper at Rm1k ?
New HD650 is about Rm1.7k now.

i've been to a few orchestra myself, the "actual mainstream" ones was when i was a kid, not much to say about that. the more recent ones are the last 2 VGL held in Malaysia.

with that said, have you auditioned the hd700 and/or hd800? more specifically the hd800. The sound stage is just really really wide, pretty much the widest sound stage of any headphones i've ever got my ears on. and yes, on certain tracks/music especially non orchestral ones it can sound a bit fake (anisong/pop music with a lot of left/right digitization/mixing, lol my head goes from hearing the music/vocals flinging left/right )

and yes, when i go to orchestra, i prefer to be in the middle/center position (be it horizontally/vertically)
being too close, some of the instruments can be too pronounced and you may not hear the details properly
too far, and some instruments can't be distinguished or more specifically, choirs who didn't feel like singing harder/louder (lol the malaysian choirs, maybe they skipped dinner  ) will be too damn soft to be relevant at all (especially on more dramatic music)

SC2: wings of liberty anyone? our malaysian choir didn't do quite well on that piece during the last VGL, i was pretty disappointed

So with that, I was wondering what angle you were approaching the matter from. I do concur with you in regards to the sound stage for some genres being somewhat difficult to imagine, especially for digital music; this is where the LCD-2 has its points.

For orchestral music, my experience differs. However, the size of the music hall and its acoustic design inevitably plays a major role. Seating position no less plays a crucial role. As fro distance from the orchestra, I never found that being too close was a problem in itself. The ears tend to adjust and I accept that the experience would be slightly different. I usually leave it as that and accept that I can't be the only one in the hall to listen.

So did you pick up the HD700 or was it just an audition unit?

hi all, i finally got my dream headphone today, hd650 (add me to the member list pls ) although it is used, but it is in mint condition and i got it for RM750 off ebay!

i tested it with ipod video 5th gen (don't flame me on this ) without amp but it sounds adequate, even better than my shure se215. suprisingly this is not that hard to drive, ipod can drive it with 85% volume and my laptop can drive it with 65%.

i can't imagine what the improvement will sound like after i purchase an amp.

i am a proud owner of hd650 now
