Is 4 meters of fabric enough to make a 3 piece suit on a 6 feet guy?

guys i went to alt just now. When i ask him about the price of workmanship he keep insisting it depends on the material used. Is it normal? Also he quoted me 900 for a normal suit's workmanship and extra 600 for a fully canvassed suit. How is the pricing?

And alt only has horn buttons and he said one can only get MOP from Singapore and it cost $4/pcs. I am going to source for my own fabric online now. It'll definitely be cheaper.

The price seems to go up all the time.

Make sure you post the links to the cloth you want to buy here before you buy them.
*
Yeah i thought that was expensive too. But i'll negotiate with alt when i eventually present my fabric to him. Anyways anywhere else can i source for shirt fabrics? I'm currently am leaning towards a grey suit and this is the fabric I'm currently looking at. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TONIK-LOOK-WOOL-KID-...93#ht_500wt_922

What do you guys think? and he said for my height 4.5 meters is required.

alt told me that a fully canvassed suit will take 2 months. and half canvassed only takes 2-3 weeks. He said his orders are through the roof.

Added on April 16, 2011, 11:20 pmalso i went to euro moda and look at their fabric. the zegna's are so smooth and nice. but the price is atrocious @ 1100/meter for their top of the line fabrics.

Added on April 16, 2011, 11:23 pmand about lining alt say his mitsubishi lining is equivalent to bemberg's lining. What do sifu think about this statement?

AKSTextiles is run by Karl, and he is currently out of commission since his wife gave birth 2 weeks ago. I'm still waiting for him to contact me about something I bought.

4.5 meters is excessive. Ask him if 3.5m will be alright for a plain fabric with no stripes and no check.
*
oh sorry 4.5 is for a 3 piece. he said if I'm making a 2 piece it would need 3.6 meters, and a bespoke shirt i would need about 1.7 meters.

Was looking at that to make another suit as well. Have you gotten it? Let me know how it looks if you have. tongue.gif

Has anyone been to wardrobe to get a suit made? Read somewhere that they make MTM suits for a tailor in Savile Row. By the looks of it I should've started making suits 2 years ago when prices were still considerably low.

Thx kot. Asked AL to make a non-fused one.
*
nope i haven't purchase the fabric yet. was looking at other alternative since Karl is pretty busy now.

Added on April 19, 2011, 2:41 pmGuys I'm interested in buying fabrics for my shirting as well and specifically fabrics from acorn. I'm just puzzle by the different width of fabrics offered which is in 36" and 60". May i know what are the differences? And if ah loke say i need 1.7 meters to make a shirt, does the length of 1.7 meters applying to both the width? Thanks.

36 inch- buy 3 meters
60 inch buy 2 meters

You may need the additional fabric to ensure a proper pattern match - a sign of a well made shirt

thanks yea better to be safe than sorry. since the fabric is shipped all the way from UK. The pricing seems pretty good for acorn, i really love the royal oxford. might get different colors for that fabric.

I wanted to drop by to survey the place, and have a look at some of his finished suits. There weren't many, maybe around 4. They looked like they were made for some middle-aged, upper management types. He said the rest had been sent for drycleaning. But my curiosity got the better of me, I wanted to know what this 3rd generation tailor could do for me. I'm impulsive that way.

My curiosity cost me 1.5k.
*
1.5k includes house clothes as well? that seems like a reasonable price. i wonder how much he charges for workmanship.

guys after browsing on ebay uk for suiting fabrics, am just wondering that karl no longer sells fabrics on ebay? I only saw howard's postings and his color is quite limited for kid's mohair range, is looking for something greyish.

Hi,

I was thinking of getting a two piece suit done.....

Its for my graduation/convo ceremony......so I was thinking of making a day to day suit.

Unfortunately, I don't have much time...its on 23rd of July.....do you guys think I have sufficient time....

And I don't want to rush things.....worst off, i dont want to simply buy a polyester type just because i dont have enough time to make one

Time is not on your side brother, if you really aren't buying otr better go do now.

^It should be alright. I think it is really dark grey. If i'm not mistaken kokmj said something about this seller's perception of colour.

Yes that's why I wanna ask around here before I make the purchase. The other seller karl doesn't seem to have anymore fabrics on ebay.
