Not lacquer only, other paint will make the plastic become brittle as well. Unless you buy the newer MG kit like Nu Ver.ka which their plastic is paint friendly.
Lacquer paint was quite popular, they gave a lot of varieties. Take gaianotes paint as example, you can see the types of colors they offered. So there are a lot of people paint their kit with lacquer paint. I think a layer of primer could at least protect the plastic from directly "eat" by lacquer paint.

i had an mg, where a part of the inner frame i coloured it with the markers, (in the end realizing it wont show anyways) and then i erase using the gundam marker eraser. did dat a few times iinm, to clean that part.
then when i attempt to connect it to the shoulder part, not yet connect, just nearly, it patah by itself. im trying to find out the reason behind it broken, so i wont do the same mistake again. thanx in advance ya.
