Overall experience after 4 months of using 4745G:
Pros:
- Switchable graphics = sweet battery life, can reach ~5hours
- Nice ATI HD 5470, capable to play low-mid gaming ( some
latest game with lowest setting )
- Acceptably nice design from Acer
- Cheap
Cons:
-
High temperature issues especially when playing graphical games-
Crappy build-in video cam- Very annoying Caps Lock pop-up, especially when playing games
-
No Catalyst upgrade because of switchable graphics (you can still upgrade but with no switchable graphics)-
Not-so-good LED LCD screen, need to adjust at certain angle for better view-
A bit loose lid-
Quiet weak speaker (despite of Dolby Home Theater Virtual SurroundSound system...

)
Recommendations (IMHO though...) :
-
Upgrade your RAM to at least 4GB for better performance-
Uninstall any useless Acer applications+ trial games-
Use GOOD laptop cooler for intense gaming, and try to focus at left side of laptop-
Find yourself a good earphone/speaker/headphone. Believe me, you'll need it...
Overall:

Nice laptop for expendable battery lifespan and switchable graphics, but not very recommended for heavy gamers.
(7/10)
Question though. If the warranty seal sticker at the back of laptop 'broken' (torn up) when we try to open the back casing (for example RAM upgrade), will the warranty void?
Bolded above. That's very true.
The lid.. I have solved the gap issue by closing the lip in a fast pace. If slow, the hinge will get laggy and stuck.
The LCD viewing range sucks. when you have black BG's it won't look good. The lighting doesn't blend in whichever angle you put it.
But some games like BC2 I can play medium setting, left 4 dead medium and ect. mostly medium.
Too bad it ain't coming with HD5650 though. That is great.
Same with encoding. I do a lot of raw HD video encoding (HDTV streams and what not), temperature will jump and gets a lil warm on the left palm rest. (Not very noticeable like MBP though)

I have games, adobe software and ms office

Soon gonna install ubuntu into it.
The salesperson already tore it off when installing the ram for me. But warranty won't get void

Btw, does anyone update their bios?
I have all of the above too. essential for me soon.
ubuntu rocks. But my bro used it and it seems to suck the battery real bad. Haven't really tried intensely with mine though.
But there's some issue with the GPU & network drivers.
If you manage to get online using LAN cable, tell me ASAP as I can only get it online using wireless.
I never touched the bios. I just keep it the way it is since there's no problems.
Oh by the way, today I've got my hands on a Acer brochure, 4741G seems to have different design right?
Looks like no shiny sidebar and less metallic feel.
