Hi all, just bought an ATH-M30 and loving it, but want something more.

I wanna ask all you gurus' opinion. AD700 vs M50, which one should I get?

BTW: I recommend Asus Xonar Essence STX with built-in headphone amp.

Soundstage... hmmm.

One thing that I noticed on my M30 is that the music sounded very close to me, sometimes like the singer is inside my head, lodge within my brain. A bigger soundstage will have an effect like using loud speakers, I suppose?

Also, sometimes, vocal sounded very 'nasal'.

I am so happy with it that I am looking to buy another!

I am hearing sounds that I have not heard before! And I have been listening to those songs for years!

That's why I am considering between the AD700 and the M50.

But like I said, sometimes the M30 sounded a little 'nasal', and the music is like 'in-your-head'. I am not sure if this is because of the M30 being a studio monitor headphone. And if it is, then will the M50 has the same properties?

WELCOME MAN....what headphone you using now??? thumbup.gif

ATH-M30. Planning to get two more. An earphone that matches/to replace my sennheiser CX400. Then another headphone that matches my sound signature.

This is actually the first time I heard of the term 'sound signature' so it seems I still have much to learn. So I hope all the Masters here can teach this young Padawan.

Oh wow.

Amazon is having a discount for the AD700. Only USD 89.90! That's like RM 315 only!

Anyone going to the US? tongue.gif

m30 my first AT headphone and my first ever headphone for 6 years ago..hehe...

It's also my first encounter with Audio-Technica. I have heard of the brand before, but have not yet tried it as back then, about 2 years ago, it wasn't that widely available in the consumer market (or the noob market as I call it). I was dealing with a shop for my business and I got some credits for a returned product, so they gave me the M30 as a contra. I tested it once, and then packed it nicely, and then sold it off to my friend for RM 150. I liked it, but at that point in time, I didn't have any use for it. Now I regret that decision. My friend laughs at me every chance he gets.

So just two weeks ago I went and bought the headphone again, to complement my Asus Xonar Essence STX.

use ur own credit card... =) i believe they can ship to malaysia... =) i believe including postage should be around RM400-450 or even much less than the amount i give... =)

If I start shopping at Amazon, it won't be just the headphone that I will be buying tongue.gif

Hmm, may not be a bad idea. There are some blu-rays that I have been eyeing. Plus, I can use vPost for cheaper shipping.

My humble opinion, start with ATH-M30. Only RM 230+. Good start to try out what Audio Technica can offer.

The price of AD700 is usually around there on Amazon. It fluctuates everyday and price differ from every merchant. I got mine for about USD82.xx

Oh ok. No point to buy from there then.

Wheeew! Saved me a lot of money. sweat.gif

If I were you I would get it from Amazon ;D

If you got citibank cc, use Borderlinx.

I hear vPost services not so good. Borderlinx shipping is super fast. I get my items within 3-4 days after payment.

Just make sure your merchant don't use an oversize box for your order or else you'll pay unnecessary money because they charge volumetric weight (box dimension) as well.
*
Yea, I don't like vPost too. I don't have a Citibank credit card unfortunately. Do they consolidate packages and send them as one?

Added on May 26, 2010, 5:24 pmOne last Question: where is Jaben? It says Petaling Jaya, but where exactly? Funny I can't find it's address.

With Akabane's permission, I would like to borrow this thread to do a little survey, just to feed my curiosity. I have 3 questions:

1. What is the average age here? I mean, people who read and participates in this thread.
I am 30 by the way.

2. What kind of songs do you listen to?
I am a Darren Hayes/Celine Dion/Phil Chang guy with the occassional Michael Buble and Chai Ching.

3. How do you listen to your songs?
I am mostly on the move, so my music are MP3 ripped at 320kbps done with Windows Media Player. To my untrained ears, they sound the same as FLAC ripped by CDex. Playback wise, on the move, I use a Sony Ericsson W995 wirelessly bluetooth-ed to my Jabra BT3030 coupled with a pair of Sennheiser CX-400. At home, on my desktop, I use Foobar 2000, output via my Asus Xonar Essence STX to my Audio Technica ATH-M30, or via optical out to my Logitech Z5500.

It's interesting for me to know these answers because I come from a home theater surround sound background (story for another day) and I am only beginning to go into music, and although I am green, I still have some knowledge with a certain amount of expectation to my music. Plus, if my guess is correct, it is interesting to see that the younger generations are beginning to take over what I call the 'uncle market' for music appreciation. Even more interesting is the fact that the head-fi group is making so much progress, catching up, if not surpassing the hi-fi industry.

Yea, I know. I think too much. blush.gif

Hmmm....

I was hoping for something more specific.

Other than feeding my curiosity, I was also hoping that this survey can help me (us) to uncover a good setup (mobile and desktop). I always believe that good things need not necessarily cause us to sell our souls to the banks.

Like my home theater setup, I like to look around and be delighted in finding a good set of speakers or a good AV receiver for a decent price, and then configured to have a sound matching a setup 5 times its value. Similarly, when I was looking for this audio setup, it was by chance that I stumbled upon the Asus Xonar Essence STX review by Stereophile.

Bose owner. Must be loaded brows.gif

Added on May 27, 2010, 5:54 pmWell, as specific as what I wrote down. That was an example, really. The important thing that I am looking for are the encoding standards used, software/hardware player, amps (if any), speakers and headphone setups, soundcards, you know... anything short of what you are wearing tongue.gif
