Yes, they also have to prevent chaos. At least we still can live in harmony till the end of time.
Overall, I don't believe in this thing. There's no reason to worry about it as we can't do anything anyway.
If I borrow money from loan sharks to buy this and that and nothing happen in 2012, that would be the real end of the world for me.
