Can cook "maggi mee" while you wait for "screwmax" stream your youtube flick, you could probably do a mini sauna if you're in a closed room.

Not everyone wants MBP 17" la. So big like an elephant.

But it will be a worthy desktop replacememt. 17" is elephant then 19" is whale? Hahaha. I have a client that lug around a 17" mbp + Mybook studio + charger + bunch of cables. Siao....

Just a question guys. Are there are cosmetic differences between MacBook Pros of mid 2009 and the new line of MacBook Pros?
*
Not that I aware of on the external, internally I know they change some screw mount.

Those who are running low battery performance, check if your graphic usage is always on the high-end card.

There seems to be some issue on "switching back" to the low end card.

There already some report on Apple forum.

So fast!! I was told ... that my MBP will hv to go back to china, where they'll check it and then send me the replacement. They say it might take approximately 2-3 weeks
before I get the replacement unit of MBP!!
*
That's BS. I suggest you get your unit back and send to proper Apple Service Center ASAP.

Your case doesn't meant everyone's case.
I say it could be done in 5-10 working days. Which is not 2-3 weeks.

And please do not simply quote me. You choose to believe what you like, doesn't mean others are wrong. I suggest you edit your post.

Here's my view of not buying from local outlets:

1) Most of the time when you walked into store, they might not have stock for it.

2) Then you have to go to the mall, parking, jam etc.

3) Then you have to lug the packaging around the mall advertising to everyone "hey I got a brand new Mac here"... Target for next theft? U tell me.

4) Not everyone is buying a small Mac, what if they buy a iMac 27" or MBP17"? It's not easy to lug that around the mall.

5) Often the sales rep will open your unit prior hand over to you (for setup, registration or any reason). It's not "brand new" anymore, technically.

6) Lastly, most of them here, i can see order online using education discount, be it eligible for it or not.

Order online shipped to your door steps, wrap in brown box before the actual packaging. So why not?

One more thing, until today, non of the local store worth spending my blood and sweat money.

I agree with the other points except this. All your registration, preinstalls and ACPP require Apple staff to open the unit anyway.

Oh and to add: local stores still have to go through the online store for built-to-order units.
*
No, if you order thru Apple.com you get the unit sealed tight, and you have to setup your Mac with your user account. ACPP are registered via serial number database by AppleCare team, basically there's no need to open the box the moment it shipped out from manufacture plants. CTO units are unsealed units and assembled according to your order by the factory before shipping.

QUOTE(terence8 @ May 15 2010, 05:13 PM)
i agree that u trying to mean order online is much more easier and convinient but the only thing is if ur unit has prob then u have to send back again and wait another dunno how many days. where else in the store u can change right away( if they have stock)
*
It's not every unit are come out of box defective. And you can send the unit back to any Apple Service Center.
If it's not DOA, your unit will still go thru the same service route, often retailers takes much longer time on servicing compare to service center.

I second whatever aspect but the largest workspace come first. Also, it would not be benefiting much if just to change to 16:9 screen, then they have to change the casing also, big big process on t he factory. It's ok on iMac cause the design got updated at the same time. I think the laptop design will most likely to stay a while.

No complain on the screen part, just get the GPU up on par for high end models is my wish list. Having same chip on all models don't justify paying for higher end models.

Hmm.. optical drive can be optional, I would love to see next gen ports on it (usb3 or fw1600/3200).

Depends which model, I would say the drive generally weight around 8pcs DVD. Quite some weight there.
Ofcourse, we are talking redesign here, not just simply take out the drive and left it hollow.

Only the newer MyBook will come with the SmartWare partition. If you installed it, the next restart it should be hidden, mine doesn't show after the restart. You can install it then disable it from running at startup.

17" is really heavy when you travel alot. Consider that instead of the spec. I think both 15" & 17" will perform rather well as a laptop. And please include ACPP into your budget by any means.
