Mostly won't work unless it's a XP OS. If you have burned the recovery disc, better use that.
*
yes, i notice that the current OS is an OA version.
currently im downloading the Windows 7 home premium on MSDN website..
hmm.gif just wondering whether the product key can be used on that one...

i've burned out those recovery disc.. can those recovery disc formatted my HDisk?
as what stated on this website:notebookreview.com - windows 7 validation

You can try to use the recovery disc to reinstall your OS. After finish installing, you can use partition software like EASUS to get the HDD space you need. Dual boot system is useful if you use linux/windows or Mac/windows, it's rather pointless to dual boot XP/7 as you can use XP mode/VMware to do it.
*
yes, planning on installing other OS (Mac/Linux) rclxms.gif
ok... will try to take alook at EASUS software..

1 more question, when partitioning the HD, does it affect the recovery option? what i mean is if
windows 7 crashed/etc, can the recovery disc be used to reinstall back the win 7 OS on that same partition? blink.gif

The recovery disc is more reliable in a sense you don't need to care about your current partition's space/location is different than the original partition arrangement. It only does affect if you're doing the recovery using recovery partition(For Lenovo only I guess).

thanx.. for precaution, better to get the drivers 1st.. biggrin.gif
currently downloading the win 7 home premium driver from the lenovo website (for 64bit) ..
and copied it onto my external disk..

just for info, acer Aspire 5740G supported.. biggrin.gif
but with lower resolution... SOS below:
Acer Aspire with Radeon HD 5650 low Rez
i will research more in depth bout that OS... what i know is currently they can support i5/i7 .. hmm.gif
for mobo dunno... LoL... will try to ask on that forum hmm.gif

and apparently they've still waiting for the HD 5xxx0 series for Mac OS LoL

This happen to Y460 user which run Win7 64 bit before.
You could try to download 5 times, event is completed and still receiving the same message.
Do the steps I mentioned above.

if u have no Win7 disc. just click reformat will do.. , if there are any partition..

and can reinstall again the win7 ..

if you really want clean format.. then.. need win7 disc .. you can download from microsoft web it self.. or just buy the pirated disc..

but when installing.. using the serial number that you have at back of the laptop...

well... win7 must be same version..
available on selected models mean.. in selected models only.. i bet.. still none in malaysia market..
*
correct me if im wrong,
there's a question that i need to ask you...

if we reformat our harddisk & using the windows 7 dvd that we bought/downloaded,
can the serial no. at the back of our laptop be used when using the windows 7 dvd?

what i know is windows 7 on y460 is OEM version (meaning that the serial key cant b used on other windows 7 dvd)

the best way is use the lenovo onekey recovery disc

thx kae for replying me..
1)does download from microsoft web need money or it is free?
2?what is pirated disc disadvantage?it has the same feature and function as the original one?
3)normally win7 disc comes with purchase of notebook right?
4)what do u mean by ''reformat if there are any partition..and can reinstall again the win7''..isnt it a clean reinstall of win7 will have it all done?

Added on June 18, 2010, 8:19 amHi there..a new question..for rapiddrive lenovo uses a 32gb ssd inside the hybrid..that makes sense when large file and games can fit in it for fast application execution..but the question is..how come seagate momentus xt which uses only 4gb flash drive is able to do the same thing(seagate claims it)..modern games certainly exceed 4gb..any pro can enlighten me?xD..cuz i am planning to replace hdd inside y460 to seagate momentus..since lenovo malaysia is not releasing y460 with rapiddrive..ANYONE OUT THERE HAVING Y460 WITH SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT?mind to share your experience??

for me the safest way is using ur OKR (one key recovery)..
because if u using win 7 home premium dvd + ur laptop serial key, there's a posibbility that
that u cant use the serial key (below ur laptop) during the installation

one key recovery will bring back those useless bloatware..btw..why cant use serial key below my laptop?using the dvd installer+the serial.key is the correct way isnt it?
*
for that (OKR) im not sure, but i will try to test it out..

try to read this one (on lenovo community):
windows 7 pre-installed cant install fresh one

but if you still want to proceed with installing the new windows 7 on your laptop,
you either do these 2 ways (if not successful, need to contact microsoft to activating back the windows):
to use the pre-installed win 7 serial key on windows 7 dvd

or, buy a new windows 7 dvd + using the dvd product serial key sweat.gif

Added on June 19, 2010, 10:13 amregarding the reinstalling of win7..i am still confused about it..hopefully somebody can englighten me..
1)what is the purpose of making recovery disc?what kind of things do we store inside it?
2)since we dont have win7 disc installer,we need to download it(win7 home premium 64-bit) from microsoft?
3)after successful clean install of win7,we install driver from D: back to C : right?
4)after i am satisfied with my new OS,can i set OKR to format back to this OS(new) in future(virus or etc)..?
hope someone can solve my confusion..xD

sorry for late reply,

1st u need to disable out those bloatware that is on your laptop,
you can do this by:
on the start menu, on the textbox, or, you can just press the windows + r button (on ur keyboard), and type in msconfig.
then, go to the startup tab, & disabled any non-useful application (untick those selected application)

NOTE: just make sure that the you didnt disabled out the important one (wireless, bluetooth, intel, ati, ur antivirus)
by doing this, less processes that involved, & less heat that will be produced,

you also need to set out ur power plan setting to power saver mode, and make sure that ur power play is set to
maximize performance: Previous Post regarding on power play setting

and use cooler pad tongue.gif

just now i've use the OKR disc, yes, after i use the OKR, it reverted back to the factory setting
(just like 1st time when we switch on the laptop), all the previous data that stored on the HD will be erased.
bloatware also pre-installed LoL smile.gif nevermind, can disabled those bloatware...

hey guys,
great news, i've managed to install MAC OS Snow Leopard OSX86 on my laptop,
i've made it by creating a new partition (that new partition is for MAC OS)

windows 7 still can be loaded (on drive C:) rclxms.gif
i just use the OKR, then install & use the EASUS partition manager for creating the new partition,

insert the Chameleon + install MAC OS Snow Leo OSX86,
and then, on startup, u can choose between OSX86 + Windows 7 (but need the chameleon to boot up both OS)

i've tested it out on the MAC OS Snow Leo OSX86, things that can be used so far:
sound, keyboard, touchpad...

but still need tweaking on the touchpad part (there's bug where my cursor sometimes, move randomly on the MAC Screen..)
i've also tested it out by watching video's on that OS, so far so good.. rclxms.gif
