Hey guys,
I really need a hand or 2 here. rclxub.gif . Last week, i got an offer from Halliburton in Well Completion Department. I was really excited and decided to give a try with them. And later today, i just got another phone call from Transocean in Subsea Training. Help me decide the best from these 2. Really need the otai2 here in lowyat forum.

Halliburton
1. Salary - ~3000rm basic
2. Working Hours - 9-5 i guess (Offshore when needed. A bit unplanned)
3. Benefits -
4. Future prospect (Market demand) -
5. Job scopes -

Transocean
1. Salary - >3500rm basic
2. Working Hours - 12 hours shift. 1 month offshore, 2 weeks off. (would be 1 month on, 1 month off when the program finish)
3. Benefits -
4. Future prospect (Market demand) - Forever working offshore?
5. Jobs scopes -

Feel free to comment of what i wrote.

I know many people in the marine industry who would give an arm and a leg to work for transocean. A large number of engineers jumped ship from bohai project to transocean a few years back.

Bro, it all depends on whether you can adapt to the Transocean type of job scope. If you like the constant offshore part and the money that comes with it, then go ahead with Transocean. Else, go with what Halliburton is offering you.

In either way, both are good companies. Also, you will not be stuck with the same job scope forever.

Hopefully you dont become on of those engineers who dont know anything except reviewing and approving job orders and ensuring that the work is done on scheduled then knowing the actual job scope and the challenges that comes with it.

If I were you, I will choose Transocean ahead of Halliburton. It will offer you better career prospect and of course substantial sum of money in the future. It doesn't mean you will forever work at offshore.

Anyway, whatever it is, stick to your heart.

Besides the career potential, do you have a loved one? (bf/gf)
Just to share experience, my friend who had to worked off shore often, the gf lari dgn orang lain.

If you are still single, then no problem.
If not, then have an understanding with your loved one first. Maybe you treasure relationship more than $$ or the other way around.
It's up to you.

Both jobs will require offshore exposure otherwise you will not know what your crew is doing and facing daily while carrying out your work. Don't go for the money alone as you'd be stuck going offshore forever and trust me you don't want to be in your 40's and be asked to do things by manager who barely hit 30s. As far as career development is concerned being formerly of SLB and having offices and friends in Halliburton, Weatherford and Baker Hughes, SLB is better and you can see that from the cross sectional of population and the management level balances. As for pay package for experts Baker and Halliburton pays well. I can't comment on Transocean since I only have people in the support function there, pay is not bad for the support staff for Transocean but the operator/client pays better.
