Developer Preview version is likely to be made available during WWDC. Of which is very likely the same chaos as the last time with 3.0 is gonna happen again, with people downloading copies off BT, upgrading and finding that they cannot authorize their phones without a developer account and cannot revert back to the previous OS, etc once again.

So what makes you think so? After all, you just need to look at the time between the iPhone 3GS launch and the availability in Malaysia as an example.

Added on April 6, 2010, 3:07 pmermm, this is kinda obvious right? The product cycle for iPhones and iPod Touches is once a year after all. Its not too difficult to predict when it'll be released.

Right, and what does an 'iPad' year has got to do with the iPhone? Basically we're talking about 2 different types of devices here, where one is a tablet, and the other is a phone.

I'll make the distinction even clearer for you. Can you make phone calls with the iPad via a cecullar network? And even if you can, do you really want to hold something of that size to your ear?

And then, let's take a look at the timelines for the release of a new OS vs new phones shall we?

The iPhone 3GS launch was just 2 days after the release of a major firmware update, which was the 3.0 last year, with the first developer betas released a few months before.

Looking at this year, it does look like the same timeline is being followed. New major firmware update announcement being made a few months before a hardware refresh of the phone too.

Just to note, in case there's those who itchy fingers and downloaded the beta from BT (there's bound to be those who'll put it there), installing it without a developer account will more or less brick your phone, 'cause you won't be able to authorize the firmware after installing. And there's no way to go back either. The only way to restore your phone then will be to wait till the 4.0 actual release.

The same thing has happened during the 3.0 beta days

Well, anything that uses any form of radio signals needs to go through SIRIM for approval.

From what I remembered of the iPod Touch 2G, it was delayed at SIRIM for about a month or so.

It tends to vary each time a new product comes in to be approved.
