Background

Previous Thread...

History... Since December 2008, the idea was to form a band that can play anime songs AT WILL. The thread started with many individual contributors, posting their own covers of their favourite anime songs. As usual in the music world - lots of guitar, bass and piano/keyboard players, but not many drummers and vocalists. Nine months passed with not much progress. Everyone was playing individually, but not as a band.

Turning point... On August 15, 2009, that changed when we procured our own drum set. It was a gamble - to entice someone to play the drums for us. Some tried, but none permanent. Unknowingly someone from under the same roof discovered a latent talent and started to learn the drums whole heartedly. The first 'band' piece, Kimi ni Todoke (TV Size), was a proof of concept.



The birth of the band... Then progress went exponential. With the video in place, more people believed in the band. Lovesummer came from way north to record the first complete song, God Knows, from the all too familiar anime series. Followed by an impromptu showing at the 2010 Games Anime and Comic Circle (GACC) at Multimedia University Melaka.



The tradition... One thing sets this band apart from any other - this band is fluid. We're open to new members and new ideas. We play live music as well as internet video collaborations. The band is a manifestation of the collective Malaysian anime and J-POP fan spirit. We play any genre - rock, ballad, traditional, jazz - so long as the guitar strings don't break, or the vocalists don't lose their voices, we will play.

i think u guys should take revenge for God Knows and Lost my Music which is not very well last time (altho it was good during practice)

1. No worries mate, that is in good order (July). In fact, I'd like to call upon a session, just to practice an opening routine.

lol I'm over 9000 miles away from Malaysia so there's no way for me getting there

i think covering a new anime song would bring more exposure to the band than older ones, considering there will have been less time for other people to do a cover of it. it will increase the chances of the song poping up from a search in case someone was searching for it. and hopefully nobody else will play the same song at the anime convention. just my 2 pence

Misao, Eccentrical, Natsu and Noir(? not sure)... went to Shah Alam for a friendly practice session with Desu! on 17 Apr 2010.

got to sit in and watch myclam/chiaki/misao play earlier. nice live sound. and thanks for the short drum tutorial guys

Hmmm... there's a bit of confusion on song selection, so I'd list down what I can play, what I want to play

Songs that I have played: Most K-On songs, Rurouni Kenshin songs, a bit of Asian Kungfu Generation, Beck
Songs that I can play: Nearly all kinds except for ones that have lots of popping - it just doesn't sound nice on my bass
Songs I want to play: Any recent songs. Am a fan of Miku songs, and plan to make originals using Miku as well.
Songs I prefer not to play: Songs that are so obscure that people can't recognize them

Songs that I have played: gacc setlist - god knows, lost my music , kimi todoke, yasashii uso, tsubasa wo kudasai
Songs that I can play: any song with power chords on the rythm part, I can solo pentatonic scale only
Songs I want to play: Tommy heavenly, Kimura Kaela, Asian Kung-fu generation
Songs I prefer not to play: those songs does not repeat the verse after the first chorus...

Songs that I have played:
Complete piano arrange solo - 童話迷宮(douwa meikyuu | otogi juushi akazukin OP1), 冒険彗星(bouken suisei | tales of the abyss ED), いろは唄(iroha uta | kagamine rin original), きみにとどけ(kimi ni todoke | kimi ni todoke OP)
Others - gacc setlist

Songs that I can play:
So long its not too complicated, then its ok to me, though I might end up simplifying it.

Songs I want to play:
Any will do I guess?
Vocaloid originals, eroge songs(?!), doujin songs(?!!), our own original song(?!!!) <- these are kinda... obscure in msia I guess? since not many people listen to them =.="

Currently none.

So here's a 1st pass shot at the original miku song from me... needs better instrument selection, but it's a start...

Yeah, with a midi drum beat, flute and piano, it really can't sound like I want it to be. The reference song with the right instruments I'm thinking of is Alone - Gensomaden Saiyuki 2nd ED

Taisetsuna Mono by ROAD OF MAJOR.

The drum beat layout... I'd like to keep it close to the concept (offbeat at the start). I do want to simplify it a bit. If ye have any ideas on how to simplify, go ahead.

Also I can't fix stuff during week days... work....

For those not familiar with what's happening, Last Sat, we had the jam session as planned, and realize we are short on songs with male singers. So if u hv any suggestions, please post.

I've listen to both the old school Meguriai and the new one. I'm interested with the new one.

i dunno about the live thingy, but I'd be more than happy to cover Gackt's Meguriai for the online band XD

But if you really wanted a more upbeat rock from Gackt it should be Ai Senshi or at least Metamorphoze?

I'm currently doing a collaboration as well =P

found out something interesting that I thought I'd share (if you haven't already know):-

was fiddling around with what kind of microphone to use for recording, and I tried plugging in my Guitar Hero USB microphone for the heck of it. Surprisingly, it worked like a charm! The recorded sound was quite smooth (haven't compared it to an audio-input mike though). Will test out on a random song and see..
