QUOTE(periwater @ Aug 2 2011, 11:16 PM) weikee, Thank you for your feedback.1. The mild steel swing gate is not powder coated or galvanised? It's about RM130 psf, so if it's powder coated, then it's a good deal. 2. Mild steel fencing - no comment, as I didn't do it 3. Mild steel door grille wt powder coated @ RM14 psft - I got mine at RM13.50 psf, using THK1.2 19mm 4 and 5 - no comment 6. Mild steel window grille wt powder coated and angle frame @ RM11 psf - Mine is RM11.50 psf, using THK1.2 19mm. So, your pricing is not too bad. |

QUOTE(lowlowc @ Aug 4 2011, 10:20 AM) Is it normal custom that the grille installer just suddenly call you and said they're outside your house and wanted to install the grille? When I booked for it, I told them I wanted the rectification of my new house done first, before starting the grille everything but now he keep on calling and calling and wanted to install them even without my presence. I wanted to be there to make sure the grille pattern and color is the right one before letting them install. Tell them if no need pay then come install lah. |

QUOTE(kochin @ Aug 6 2011, 05:30 PM) forummers, Modify, not many will do cause is labor intensive. I got a friend asking many to mod come of the grill, but no one want to do it. End up i think he rent welding machine and do it himself.i need assistance. the subsale property i'd purchased comes with grilles. unfortunately the grilles deisgn and layout is not to my liking. i need to take away some, modify some and add new ones. so overall, it should be more on labour intensive thingy rather than material intensive. who would be interested to undertake such job? any contact to recommend? thanks. PS: rectification mainly due to removal of existing timber window frames to be replaced with aluminium windows. therefore size of grille needs to be modified. |

Normally Galvanised is done by specialized factory. Grill maker will send it to the factory and do.

1.6 and 1.2mm, you mean thickness? 1.6mm is better.

QUOTE(Jo_da48 @ Oct 29 2011, 08:16 PM) He actually not even recommeding galvanized, because only those knocking will get rush even after galvanized example side door with Lock Maybe he don't do Galvanized. Proper galvanized metal, it can last long for welded portion need to use good primer + paint (or even some paint now are very good to protect rust) will do. |

FAQ Galvanized
1. How does galvanizing protect steel from corrosion? Zinc metal used in the galvanizing process provides an impervious barrier between the steel substrate and corrosive elements in the atmosphere. It does not allow moisture and corrosive chlorides and sulfides to attack the steel. Zinc is more importantly anodic to steel – meaning it will corrode before the steel, until the zinc is entirely consumed. 4. How long can I expect my galvanized steel project to last in service? Hot-dip galvanized steel resists corrosion in numerous environments extremely well. It is not uncommon for galvanized steel to last more than 70 years under certain conditions. To get a good idea of how long your project will last, see the service-life chart. This post has been edited by weikee: Oct 30 2011, 10:55 AM |

QUOTE(winchaser @ Oct 31 2011, 10:07 AM) Been trying to put what I read into practice, but my contractor seems like a little clueless when I asked him on: 1. Think is only extra RM 1 or RM 2 only.1. Powder coated mild-steel price. He said normal (non-powder coated) = RM10/sqft. Powder coat must send to factory - must check back price. Anyone know what is the price range like? 2. Sleeve anchor. He said he use wall plug (plastic) and screws only. 3. Weld nut after fasten on sleeve anchor. That won't damage powder coating at the bracket? 4. 1.2 mm vs 1.6 mm. Dunno about 1.6 mm. Regular one 1.2 mm only. Anyone have 1.6 mm thick grille? 2. Yup, normally use wall plug and screw down, than weld and grind off the top. Than paint. Only door they use sleeve anchors, than cut and weld after secure. 3. It won't cause usually the grill have extended ear, and the nut are bolt on the ear. 4. I think you need 2" or maybe 2.5" steel to get 1.6mm. Mine 1" is also 1.2mm maybe 1.1mm not too sure. |

I'll advice if you want powder coat, get common color so is easier to patch by normal paint. I am using normal matt black powder coat internal, external is galvanized + paint over it using same color.

QUOTE(leeyung @ Nov 17 2011, 11:35 AM) actually how reliable of powder coating as compared to normal spray paint ya? I saw my friend's house, his grille is actually in white colour, the grille maker sprayed it using car paint (as they claim can last longer), however after 1 year plus, the area near the lock there, the paint start to drop off, as he always accidentally cucuk the grille with key, powder coating can last better with such wear and tear? It still easy peel off, maybe harder only. My grill is a good example, drop some hardware on it, one patch came off. Lucky is common color, I apply primer and spray it. |

My entire house with 13+ feet metal gate around 10k, external is with hot dip galvanized.
I see you have 3 unit sliding door, that usually more expensive. And you did not state the measurement is also very hard to give you advice. |

Not sure, is all about design, and also thickness. You need to ask them for quote. The price of steal is really sky high now.
