yup..i will suggest hoya as well...if hoya is over budget,then there is nothing else i can help...it is better to get hoya filter,or if u are rich b+w then...otherwise better dun get at all...
how wide u need?? i dun reli know any wide angle lens in 1k, but i know a few wide angle lens,but they are all over 1k...

cheapest wide angle is sigma 10-20mm i think which can autofocus with d3000...i think that also cost u 2k d...
nikon 10-24mm is sharper than sigma alot but that cost 3k d...zzz

1 k hard to suggest u anything lar
with less than that i could only suggest u to buy a raynox wide angle lens convert.

ya 18-200 is consider as wide to telephoto...
but d3000 is APS-C sensor...so u need to consider 1.5x crop factor...
ur actual focal would be 18*1.5 = 27mm....haha...not really wide but still acceptable la...

i would consider sigma 18-250mm OS...it got quite good review and selling 2.2k if nt mistaken...

zeist:wide angle converter is a converter mount on any lens to make it capture wider images
example if u have 18-55, use converter, at 18mm it'll give image close to 16 or 17mm
not much difference n reduce image quality a lot, but thats the cheapest wide angle solution u have
but IMO, for casual everyday shooting n standard landscape shots, 18mm of kitlens is way good enuf d

not 20% la.. 5w power consumption only. furthermore it will auto cut off/on whenever needed.
i put a pack of silica gel in my dslr bag & function like drybox oso. so leaving 1 ~ 2 days i think shud not be a problem.
wow thats lenspen cun... where can i get it? my current lenspen i use it for lcd cleaner already . need a replacement...
tripod come in handy for low shutter speed snap...

Zeist:diffuser is for flash, reduce the harshness of the flash n give softer light for nicer portrait
this is a must have if have external flash, very useful 

u mean the fake bag cant protect the cam frm wat?
bag can only protect the cam frm bumps n fall, but wont protect it frm fungus or dust
the problm of the grip rubber u said is most likely the person put too much or strong silica gel in it
the rubber will dry up cos all moisture is absorbed by the silica gel, thus harden n crack

dun use cam 1 or 2 days is fine, even not use it for a week is fine too
a month oso can but u r taking the risk
normally fungus grows when the cam is left untouched for few months in humid area
if kept in aircon room oso reduce the chance of getting fungus

thats the lenspen, but its the 1st time ive seen Nikon lenspen

tripod, depends, i only used less than 5 times
other than group shots, it is useful for landscape n long exposure shots
