anybody manage to use DLNA server (eg: serviio, mezzmo, etc) to stream video/movie via network WITH transcoding?

im trying to play M4V video format directly (USB pendrive), but 'video codec format not supported' .
LA40D551 series.

You need to first check if you can play it on a PC. If the m4v is copyright protected, you can't play it anyway except from an authorized location. Apple does proprietary things on m4v video files to protect copyright of the content.

i've played on PC with no problem. media player classic.
n it also doesnt have copyright protection.

I have never dealt with such kind of files before but nevertheless, if you
are willing to spend like 15 minute or so on it, you might want to try
removing the second video track.

You have to download mkvmerge GUI and read the file into mkvmerge, and then uncheck the track which represents the second video ( which is the JPEG picture ) and then mux it as a MKV file. Then try to play this mkv file on the TV.

Good luck. smile.gif

damn.. u r good.. rclxms.gif
the file can be play now.. but not sure under transcoding or native play under wild media server..
will get into it..

samsung tech coming this afternoon.
hope can get the work done asap.

pojone, what type of connection do u use beside the hdmi?
what type/brand dvd player?

if im not mistaken, the LCD support ARC (audio return channel) thru hdmi.
anybody can clarify this?
maybe ur dvd player doesnt support it.

err, btw, im assuming u try to output sound from ur lcd to the dvd player right? (HT dvd player? )

If you read the first page of this thread ( post #16 ), it is mentioned that
the RCA is audio input, and HDMIs are also input ( from the LCD TV point
of view ). Therefore it would not be possible to output sound from the LCD
using the RCA and HDMI.
*
yep. thats correct.
just now i look at rear panel, theres no RCA audio out.. oh well.. thinking to put my altec lansing there.. sweat.gif
headphone out not really nice.. hehe

anyway, i think this LCD support ARC thru HDMI. just need compatible receiver/HT.
anyone tried this ? or can confirm..

pojone, yes, u can use the optical out. the optical out also send digital surround (DTS) other than stereo (PCM).
so if u play video content with surround format, ur digital receiver/amplifier can output surround sound.

anyway, samsung tech already changed my LCD panel just now.. yeayy.. rclxms.gif

Any idea how to use this optical out, since my player only have Component and hdmi input.
*
if that case, sorry.. no other option with ur current setup, unless u want to use the headphone stereo jack,
but u have to turn on ur dvd ht when watch tv.

I read that Samsung series 5 LCD TV does not support ARC via HDMI.

I will be curious if anyone has used the optical audio output on the LCD TV.
Wonder if it indeed is able to output DTS or AC3 from the optical.
*
oh.. too bad.. sad.gif
im thinking to get samsung HT. just the basic 1.
might be using the optical if doesnt support ARC (the HT does have optical input).
btw, mostly will be playing movies thru DLNA or USB either at LCD or HT (if the HT support HD USB playback) flex.gif

Try it and let us know the result. ARC will likely not going to work.
If you are lucky you get Digital Dolby 5.1 sound from the optical output.
*
yeah.. already read it some where.. maybe in 6 series above supported.

will do.. but maybe next month will get it.. tongue.gif
btw, there is option for digital out in menu, PCM, DTS. not sure about DD5.1.

bro, according to LA40D550 manual, DD 5.1 is not supported from TV optical out to HT.

Read bullet #3.

last night i watch movies with DLNA streaming.
in the digital audio option got 3 format, PCM, DD, and DTS.
meaning it must support the 2 surround format thru the optical out.

just bought this sammy lcd last saturday at onking - RM1799, can i used this Altec Lansing VS 4121 on my lcd, got no HT atm....tried it last nite on RCA cable - no sound at all on my speaker...but no problem using my sammy LCD32c350 model
*
of course no sound, if look carefully, theres no RCA output. all input.
only headphone n digital optical output available.
this is 1 disadvantage of this LCD.

edit: this is based on D series, not sure about C series. maybe same. sweat.gif

can i use headphone output to connect with my altec...
*
sure can.. but the result not satisfying, as the h.phone out are based on LCD volume.. the output is not 'high' n not 'clear'..
dont how to say it.. blush.gif
u have to crank up the LCD volume n the sound will default to std (no adjustment can be done like, eq/trusurround/etc.)

I don't know why they need to build so many hdmi input. Maybe you can explain to us how you use the hdmi input. There is not even a single hdmi output !
*
cut cost?
simpler circuit?
err, why u need hdmi out on tv? 'chaining' it to other receiver/tv?

Less hdmi input won't die, just plug in plug out only.

However, no hdmi output ( eg to carry audio output to other devices ) can mean a lot of inconvenience.
*
how about the optical out? sweat.gif
for audio thru hdmi, it must support ARC rite?

I think nobody who have used the optical output is visiting this forum thread.

Based on what I gathered, ARC is a HDMI 1.4 thingie, I think the Series 5 is HDMI 1.3 only.
*
yes.. series 5 only 1.3.
i might be using the optical.. brows.gif but must wait till i get my HTIB 1st.. sweat.gif
