Any size can be used, just that maximum you can set for one device is 16GB, and you can use a maximum of 2 devices

The upgrade is out. Takes about 10 - 15 minute to update depending on your connection speed.

Ok, I'm now trying a SanDisk Blade 16GB... The cheap one.. Previously I tested that write speeds are HORRIBLE on this thing... and judging from the amount of time it's taking to install L4D2 on it... yes... write speeds are HORRIBLE.. will see how reading holds up.

I also have a SanDisk Cruser 16GB and a KingMax 16GB. Very high hopes for the kingmax.

Added on April 6, 2010, 7:30 pmOh, you also can only have one installed copy of the game at a time. IE, if you've already isntalled the game to your hard disk the option to install won't come up. you'll have to delete the installed game on the hard disk and execute the copy command again, then ask it to install to the flash drive.

The thumbdrives are technically SSDs, and also, we can only use 16GB anyway. Just grab a thumbdrive.

Anyway.. intial reports
SanDisk Blade 16GB - VERY VERY VERY BAD WRITE SPEED. READ speed seems average. Wouldn't recommend this unless you have no choice.

SanDisk Cruzer 16GB - Good write speed, Good read speed. This one's not too bad.

One more KingMax 16GB to test, performance seems to be very good. Will test once my wife gets off the TV

Added on April 6, 2010, 8:41 pmOne thing I wasn't expecting was that the thumbdrive wasn't formatted with a protected partition. But rather formatted to FAT32, has a hidden Xbox 360 folder on the drive along with encrypted chunk files. Interesting.

Ok, here's the round up
Attached Image

SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16GB, the red one in the middle :- As mentioned.. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE WRITE SPEED, Read speed seems to be ok only. Use if you have no other choice.

SandDisk Cruzer Contour 16GB, the Silver one on the left :- Good write speed, nice read speed. Decent and usable, problem is that it's too big to plug in the rear usb slot. And it sticks out of the front like a sore thumb.

Kingmax 16GB :- Good write spped, Good read speed. and it's small enough to be left in the rear or the front USB. Highly recommended IF you can find it. cause I know I haven't seen these in a while.

As a reminder, note that USB thumbdrive performance can wary based on capacity and of course... who knows maybe there's a difference in manufacturing batch and performance might change as well.

In any case stay away from the sandisk blade definetly.

hmm.. should try a class 4 8GB SDHC card in a reader and see.

Well even for same manufacturer, their flash drive model have varied speed... write speed can be as slow as 5 meg/s to 18 meg/s, read speed also like 15 meg/s to 30 meg/s... so i wouldn't say a certain brand is bad unless that's the only model they have...

Well I'm pretty sure all the SanDisk Blades are bad tongue.gif I have a grudge against branded thumbdrives tongue.gif

Anyway, for those of you who haven't figured it out yet. When you select the drive you have 2 options

- Configure
- Customize

Configure WIPES your thumbdrive and uses the FULL capacity for storage.

Customize will allow you to set your remaining free space for storage WITHOUT wiping it.

Hmm.. could have been just the device I was using it with but.. the drive configured with the CUSTOMIZE option didn't want to be detected after a reinsert.
