Can't SingTel invest in Malaysia and compete with TM?
Just wondering...  rolleyes.gif

LOL, Singtel/Starhub are by no means much better compared to TM, not by singapore standard. trust me, if they come and and stuff, there will just be a new boycotting thread again in forum. even though i agreed that Singtel is much better than suckhub. They do have their own share of problem and bunch of whiners just like we did screamyx and now unifail/unicrap or whatever you guys call it. Theirs are called the stinktel and suckhub respectively, so go figure. I used suckhub and recently changed to singtel so i know exactly why those people complained. sure their raw speed are fast and all but they are not without flaw.

and yes, they do have bandwidth throttle for torrenting as well. except M1, which is because they do not have many subscriber and therefore has not face the problem in distributing bandwidth yet.

remember, grass always seems greener on the other side smile.gif

be happy that there are at least the so called 5, 10 and 20Mbps package now which we can at least brag a bit compared to our previously highest end 4mbps.

Stop comparing with SG and MY.

The problem is with our salary and cost of living. Buying an original DVD costs a lot , for instance RM 100 just for an original DVD. Thats bloody expensive and knowing how we think , the money is well spent if it were used for our cars and other things. The beauty of SG is that its a small island , the public transportation is bloody good. So basically you'll be saving $$ on fuel and other stuff which can be used to purchase the stuff

Well if you want to discourage piracy , one of the ways is to start an online rental service or music store or something like that - whereby malaysians can buy legit music at an unbeatable price

Strongly agreed. We earn RM1k here, they earn equivalent $1k on the other side.

RM100 here for a DVD is 10% of our salary.
$40 there for a DVD is merely 4% of their salary.

That explains why everything in SG seems "much cheaper". All boils down to currency value and cost of living, just like prasys said.

why cost of living and salary range have something to do with how ISP decide the price ?

If you must compare, let me do it for you. Lets compare apple to apple. In SG, singtel equivalent is their MIO Home 10Mbps which includes ADSL Line, free call to all fixed home line and IPTV equivalent and it cost $57 all inclusive per month. That's like RM135 here?

Unifi 10Mbps cost RM199. Is that really much of a difference? Not to mention, how long has 10Mbps be around in SG now? Forever? and how old is our HSBB? 1 week old? 2 at most?

You expect a new service which is even faster than our old ADSL and yet cheaper? What are they going to do with the existing service ADSL then? phase it out immediately?

Now let me turn it the other way round for you, RM199 is about $83 in SG. For me, a new technology, Fibre internet @10 Mbps, $83 wouldnt be a ridiculous price to ask for, isn't it? Of course it wouldn't be that expensive when it's released, but still i would expect a 10Mbps would be in the $60+ range, otherwise it'll defeat the purpose of the existing ADSL.

i saw $47 ...why u wan compare with highest o_O...i thought most consumer compare with lowest price o_O

if compare how old....our streamyx 2mb is consider old enough to compare? our OLD ADSL(copper) is almost the same as their Faster HSBB(Fiber)pricing?

logically speaking it should be theirs more expensive because of low subscriber and "expensive international bandwidth" and yet they are cheaper....

u compare same speed oso more exp...u compare to low speed also more exp than theirs

existing ADSL? reduce price....phase out and upgrade ( same as reduce price)
=====================================

btw...is there any official bandwidth cap on singtel broadband?

That $47 you are looking at is a STAND ALONE ADSL line, not the entire 3-in-1 package. Like i said, ADSL+Free calls+TV. To get such a cheap price, u need to have an existing phone line which you have to pay extra seperately every month so it's not worth it. I think you have misunderstood the package, i did the first time as well.

I'm not comparing the highest, i'm comparing apple to apple. It's standard and shown on the official website link here : http://home.singtel.com/mio/mio_home_price-plans.html. This is where you get Internet+Free calls+TV. I can only compare ADSL now since Fibre based internet has not been offered in Singapore yet, as opposed to what you might have believed.

Also, while many homes here on Singapore are already fibre ready, the internet service based on this technology has not yet been offered to the public so nobody knows the pricing. However, once it's released one can only guess that the price must be higher than the equivalent ADSL speed package, either that or they reduce the ADSL pricing. Get what i mean?

No there is no cap here on any ISP except mobile broadband aka 3.5G HSDPA. They are all unlimited. Throttling, yes.
