Wimax technology is a fail :/ the only way to go is FTTH which sadly is monopolied by tmnut :/here ?? no point spent millions on infra if nobody subscribe... HSBB is a fixed line.. means non mobile, so more than 60 % of subscriber for sure use that for downloading or streaming... if u limit like tat.. no point... wait till WiMax from YTL came out...then we shall see.. QUOTE(Instant_noodle @ Mar 26 2010, 09:31 AM) i'm enjoying my 1st laugh, as i read thru the older threads Sadly some of us were hoping for a change. When the rumors became official, we gave up and it's back to complaining again i was being 'ejek' by peeps of being too skeptical to a point that every post sound like whining and they said, 2 days ago... look, PM is there to do opening ceremony, must be grand!!! look, it's 5mbps!!! look, news said they were looking into pricing!!! now who's whining after the 'grand finale' revealed to be too lame to believe... look, blaady cap!!! look, blaady expensive!!! look, current line is still blaady congested as hell!!! some forumers are either too young, too naive or just plain stupid (i forgive those who are retarded, mentally challenged people needs love and care...) to believe that GLC will finally be doing something good to the public other than tneir wallet. this time i'm laughing for the price and caps. *laughing menacingly* more laughs to come... HURRY!!! SUBSCRIBE!!! QUOTE(rayfoo @ Mar 26 2010, 09:34 AM) Extract from The Star : Actually there was some sort of maxis ftth beta testing going on, anybody know anything about it?TM, solve current problems first I would like to congratulate TM for launching its new High Speed Broadband. Although the pricing has not been released yet, most domestic users are not bothered because I do not think many domestic consumers will be subscribing to it. I wonder why TM embarked on this so-called High Speed Broadband project when even its present “low” speed is not maintained properly. This month alone, I had a “port” problem thrice. I was unable to read my Streamyx webmail from overseas. Calls to its service centre were met with, “Sir, it’s normal for our webmail to be like that.” As consumers, I do not believe we should accept this kind of answer. Although the customer service people are polite, they are of little help as solving connection problems takes up to 24 hours. In this time of high speed broadband, 24 hours seems like a millennium. To TM, I suggest you look into the present problems of Internet access by going through all the reports and complaints to your customer service department. Solve our daily problems first before further expanding your High Speed Broadband. MALAYSIAN ARAB, Shah Alam. Not to say that they have their own demons in the closet such as very low bandwidth caps as well for their prior packages :/ This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Mar 26 2010, 09:36 AM |

QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Mar 26 2010, 09:34 AM) Lol, I'm sorry what? Check the HSBB thread, I was like the first guy on LYN to subscribe for the retail VIP20 package yesterday. Can you teach how to use vpn for this :/ will that by pass the cap ???Did you even read my response properly? I stated a factual error in the article Star intech posted and I get this kind of shit response. FYI, you CAN download stuff in Singapore you just have to use a VPN. People are angry for a lot of reasons. I might scrape the 120GB cap a month but my download habits aren't limited to 4GB per day (assuming its a 30 day cycle on the daily cap). Giving people HSBB access then passing them a cap which is lower than Streamyx's worst package is like making you buy a Ferrari with a fuel tank the size of a Coke can. I'm going to get the package and test it out, maybe post a review here.. but until then I'm not going to join the crowd of people that hate it or love it but who have not even tried it out. TM also DOES catch downloaders. Just not on Streamyx HOME packages because there's probably 300,000 idiots getting DMCA letters everyday. From my understanding if you get vpn it must be able to support 20 mb download isn't that right? Hm.... i never got a DMCA This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Mar 26 2010, 09:40 AM |

QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Mar 26 2010, 09:40 AM) I will have to see after I get the thing on 30th March. From what their sales rep told me, capping is not implemented yet. I assume they're putting these values in the advertisements to ward off heavy downloaders. Then if you use too much after June 30th (freebie period ends), they will place the cap on you and you can't say anything because you agreed to it (unlike with Streamyx WE ARE TEH UNLIMITED users). Ok then, i hope to hear more from you. Maybe we can try figure a way to live with this cap If local traffic isn't throttled, you will be able to bypass the cap by using a local server and SSH tunnel/VPN. I'm hoping this is the case but I will really have to check and see what protocols they are using and how they separate internet and IPTV traffic. And yes, a cheap US based VPS can be turned into a OpenVPN node and you WILL be able to utilize the full 20mbps of the line regardless of what they do until you hit your cap. |

QUOTE(knuxed @ Mar 26 2010, 10:31 AM) btw does anyone know if we have to use the router given by TM.I would love to use my current router as it is using a DD-WRT system and have quite a bit of custom settings on it. some say you can use your own. But bottomline is, you want to use ddr wrt or tomato if possible as they can monitor your bandwidth usage. Your going to need to because of the monthly and daily cap. |

QUOTE(Diran Hans @ Mar 26 2010, 11:49 AM) the user lalala_lalala cannot differentiate 20mbps thinking it should download 20MB/s ... so if you subscribe 20mb, how fast is the download you get if hes downloading at 2MB/s then it should be just right .. the beta tester are those ppl to test out the connection in the area if the installation of laying down of cables and stress test .. i will be at my bro's house this weekend to test out the HSBB and see if the speed is constant and no disconnections .. |

QUOTE(Gh-x @ Mar 26 2010, 02:40 PM) Hmm i suggest those who will be using HSBB for now, download all you can so they get the picture that average user need more than 150GB per month on the lowest package Not gonna make a difference. Even the fact their a monopoly they know but they don't care. They will cap anyway. Less international bandwidth you use, the less they pay for it thus more profit margin |

QUOTE(Diran Hans @ Mar 26 2010, 05:32 PM) lets hope the cap amount is 2x more(at least) I like her too "We are paying a premium for technology that offers super high bandwidth, so a daily cap shouldn’t be applied. There’s no value in that; we would be better off with regular broadband,” she said. taken from here i really her |

QUOTE(MX510 @ Apr 18 2010, 10:43 AM) So far no N best router for DD-WRT i just use my Linksys GL and link it to 8 port gigabit 3com switch You mean these ones?Buffalo might release new N router soon that can support dd-wrt but not sure got gigabit port or not QUOTE Wed, 03/10/2010 - 14:05 — admin BUFFALO has decided to use DD-WRT as the factory default for its HighPower Routers WZR-HP-G300NH, WHR-HP-G300N and WHR-HP-GN distributed in the US and the EU and should be available in june 2010. The firmware is a full featured DD-WRT with a BUFFALO branded interface and contains some BUFFALO specific features. Right now the normal DD-WRT firmware binaries for the devices are available through the router database. In contrast to other BUFFALO firmwares these binaries can be flashed via webflash making the process much easier. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/content/buffalo...actory-firmware QUOTE(surreall @ Apr 18 2010, 11:04 AM) They so insistent for us to use their FREE router with their custom firmware so they can throttle us at home instead? Yeah i realised that, that is why i rather not opt into their bullshit once it becomes available. Who wants to use the default router settings when it's configured to impede torrent download speeds? Lets pray rizvanrp cracks this nutshell of a problem soon This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Apr 18 2010, 01:11 PM |

@riz
Mikrotik router i've heard these mentioned a few times though not sure why. RB450G what is the difference with the 750g ? I couldn't find any mention of that :/ found out. QUOTE Do you need Gigabit? RB450G has gigabit ports. RB750 is much cheaper, has plastic case and doesn't have a serial port. Performance is also much higher on RB450G because it has the 680MHz CPU. QUOTE Yes, it can do everything a consumer router does, and a LOT more, and it does it extremely well. A good replacement for the dir 655. The only catch: there's a learning curve involved with setting these routers up beyond the most basic functions. Your first time using one expect it to take a few hours to get it all set up. Apparently it supports ddwrt http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40320 But is router os any better then wrt :/ ?? This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Apr 18 2010, 04:53 PM |

1 mb broadband = (1 x 1024) / 8 = 128 Kb/s max download speed ... not just 100 ;_;
80% of 128 is 102.4 kb/s This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Apr 21 2010, 03:22 PM |
