Dear Unify Team,

Hi Unify Team,
I would like to express my view on your new Unifi packages.

My view and may other Malaysians' view is that your packages are preposterously expensive and misguided. Malaysia is a low income country and with packages ranging from Rm149-RM249 per month for 24 months is nothing short of price gouging.

Gross National Income Comparison 2008
Malaysia
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 6,970

Australia
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 40,350

Singapore
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 34,760

ADSL 2+ Broadband Comparison (2010)
Malaysia
TM (ISP) - RM249/month with 120GB cap at max 10Mbps

Australia
TPG (ISP) AUD49.99 (RM150 approx.) with 130GB cap at max 24Mbps

Singapore
M1 (ISP) S$42.90 (RM103 approx) with UNLIMITED at max 15Mbps

Thailand
TrueOnline (ISP)  4Mbps (RM60 approx) with Unlimited and 16Mbps (RM220 approx with unlimited.

Absolute Failure of Telekom
From the simple data above, we can see that Malaysians are getting the short end of the stick. With only US$6970 GNI per capita per year, Malaysians are paying RM150 more than the closest neighbour, Singapore. The disparity is even worse when compared to Australia, which is known for its expensive broadband.

Telekom as the monopoly, should have the resource to provide services at a lower price. The only reason prices are so high for broadband is PROFIT GOUGING. There is no other reason for it.

Malaysia's cost of labour is at least 6 times LOWER than Australia and Singapore. How can Telekom justify the price for broadband to be RM100-RM150 more expensive than the other 2 countries? The need for installation of fiber in the home is insignificant when you consider labour cost in Australia is AUD25 (RM75) per hour.

On a side note, implementation of the caps is not necessary, worrying about torrent which affected Tmnet Bandwidth should throttle by hardware or software with limited bandwidth instead  affected SOHO user like me working at home transfers huge file within KL/Singapore/Hong Kong, if you implement caps, how could i transfer and download photoshop files which taken up 5-10GB everyday.

Furthermore for Video Conference, It would totally goes so slow and unable to use after been caps.

I am more than happy to discuss this with you but I know, in Malaysia, Telekom does not have the reputation to engage its customers.

Regards,

Well, i send this, but i tweak a bit.

Malaysia land area is 330,000 sq km; Singapore only 700 sq km !!

What does that mean?? That means they just spend little bit of money, can wire up EVERYONE with 50mb & charge cheaper fees...

here in Malaysia, TM has to put cabling over a land area 450+ times bigger, which also includes difficult terrain like mountains, rivers, jungles, & large areas where very few people have homes. That's why we have much lesser capabilities in terms of infrastructure.... somemore you know Singapore is very much richer than us economically.

I hope you can see & understand the situation better now.......

Malaysia got oil and singapore dont have.
