Its absolutely f'ed up. Expensive and slow. In Australia, AUD59.99, you get ADSL 2+ and 120GB per month. And max speed is 24Mbps.

Anyone knows why Malaysia DOES NOT have ADSL2+? Why is it stuck on ADSL speeds? I am very confused.

That day I asked the TM government sales manager, he told me that right now TM is the only provider for IPTV. Maybe in future got other company/media want to join???

We do have ADSL2+ and it's used in 4mbps packages. But even with ADSL2+, most houses are too far from the exchange to go over or even reach 4mbps.. hence having to pull fiber directly to each house.

But, 4Mbps is not ADSL2+. It is ADSL 1 (up to 8Mbps).

Well, you know how big and crazy vast is Australia? I mean, I am living here now, so i am just wondering is it a Govt crap thing?

I would suggest everyone here email this; enquiry@unifi.my

My email as follows:

Subject: High Cost of Entry for High Speed Broadband (Unifi)

Hi Telekom,
I would like to express my view on your new Unifi packages.

My view and may other Malaysians' view is that your packages are preposterously expensive and misguided. Malaysia is a low income country and with packages ranging from Rm149-RM249 per month for 24 months is nothing short of price gouging.

Gross National Income Comparison 2008
Malaysia
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 6,970

Australia
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 40,350

Singapore
GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) 34,760

ADSL 2+ Broadband Comparison (2010)

Malaysia
TM (ISP) - RM249/month with 120GB cap at max 10Mbps

Australia
TPG (ISP) AUD49.99 (RM150 approx.) with 130GB cap at max 24Mbps
http://tpg.com.au/products_services/adsl2plus_pricing.php

Singapore
M1 (ISP) S$42.90 (RM103 approx) with UNLIMITED at max 15Mbps
http://www.m1.com.sg/M1/site/M1Corp/menuit...ate:1003291501:

Absolute Failure of Telekom
From the simple data above, we can see that Malaysians are getting the short end of the stick. With only US$6970 GNI per capita per year, Malaysians are paying RM150 more than the closest neighbour, Singapore. The disparity is even worse when compared to Australia, which is known for its expensive broadband.

Telekom as the monopoly, should have the resource to provide services at a lower price. The only reason prices are so high for broadband is PROFIT GOUGING. There is no other reason for it.

Malaysia's cost of labour is at least 6 times LOWER than Australia and Singapore. How can Telekom justify the price for broadband to be RM100-RM150 more expensive than the other 2 countries? The need for installation of fiber in the home is insignificant when you consider labour cost in Australia is AUD25 (RM75) per hour.

Boycott of Unifi
I will boycott Unifi and will promote the boycotting of Unifi until Telekom provide an answer as to the state of broadband in Malaysia. It is illogical for a developing country like us, with low GNI per capita to be paying more than Singapore or Australia. Telekom is a monopoly, it owns all the lines, infrastructure, end to end coverage. There is no reason for price gouging Malaysian consumers.

I am more than happy to discuss this with you but I know, in Malaysia, Telekom does not have the reputation to engage its customers.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for your valuable input. We have already forwarded this mail to Product Management and Marketing Teams for their attention, as we in Support, I’m sorry to say, have little control of pricing and products.

Thank you again,

Regards,

Wan

Nice email Evangel.

But i think increasing the cap would be much better.

Almost everything is expensive in Msia.
They won't lower the subscription fees (VERY UNLIKELY), but increasing the cap is something more achievable.

I agree that consumers in Malaysia doesn't have the same power as other countries. But, we should try. I always advocate fighting for your rights. So, if there are enough people boycotting or providing feedback to the Telco, then, we might make a difference.

We should consider the income of the majority in Malaysia with regards to pricing of any broadband service.

(Sorry for making my replies in one big chunk. Figuring out now)

Nothing has changed. TM is still the same corrupt, unscrupulous, money grabbing, price gouging, anti competitive, monopolistic, big brother, discriminating company it has ever been.

46 pages of consumer backlash, umpteen direct emails, letters, complaints got nowhere.

The plight of citizens of Malaysia is a sorry one.
