QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:18 AM) Both i would say or rather because im not the type who can spend ore than 2/3 days at home doing nothing. Well the second point is more of it since im the first to grad out of 2 of us and my dad's retiring Maybe you should take some time out. Maybe not to the extreme of 3 months on multiple vacations but atleast something. Your dad has been shouldering that burden for some time now, I doubt that a couple of months is going to make a difference. I think you should convince yourself that there is a job out there for you and that you should take your time in getting it and not panic too much. Afterall, the most elusive things are those we sought out the most and yet we can't seem to get them.

QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:19 AM) Nah. My masters are very limited. I wanted to go for totally different direction. Masters are more like "upgrade" to current paper, considering the field i'm in. Added on March 28, 2010, 2:20 amExactly like my dad. Then I guess that you must take a leap of faith. Sadly, I too am turning out to be like your dad. The hardworking nature in me has been twisted into a workaholic lifestyle. It is hard for me to resist and I've made several conscious attempts at resisting being a workaholic to no avail.

QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:22 AM) Same here. I need to do something and i prefer jobs tht allows me to think and requires me to think I tend to get bored with schematic type of jobs that requires me to work like a machine without having to think. +100000000000000000000000 I used to think im stupid to pay much attention to things that arent related to my field but today im glad of it. Im thankful to my parents for teaching me to read the newspaper and watch news channels since i was very very young. At least now im known as the "know it all" among my friends despite being totally bad grades wise Hopefully that gets me sumwhere. I think intelligent and well read people like yourself will always find their way because you have an asset that you can't cultivate overnight and it may or may not involve the field that you are studying but it'll help take you places.

QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:25 AM) well. workaholic aint bad unless you're neglecting your other responsibilities. Yeah, thankfully I am a single guy who lives alone and has nobody who minds him being busy all the time. QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:26 AM) sometimes thinking too much is kinda bad It makes life look so depressing Ahh but thinkers think and that is their nature. If it is depressing, it is unfortunate but you can only be what you are.

QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:27 AM) True. But JD u have to be a workaholic coz its your own business Yeah that's very true, at the end of the day, I'm the person who cares the most if we float or sink so I will do everything in my power to make sure we float. Added on March 28, 2010, 2:29 amQUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:28 AM) cutejam - are u going to work in your current field before attempting to get 2nd degree? jerome - that's the word, leap of faith. well, i don't see it that bad. let's say I suddenly find that new XYZ course is worse than my current course, then i can switch back to current field anytime, no? I don't see the reason to get myself stuck in one choice. Yeah that's a great way of looking at it. I agree. This post has been edited by JeromeDubois: Mar 28 2010, 02:29 AM

I ended up in biotech when im good in political science, maths, english lit, writing and journalism... My worse and the only non A subject in school was biology and yet i was foolish enough to pursue biotech Who conned you into doing that? Not religious per se but I do have a general faith in god etc which I hold on to very tightly so maybe religious in a way internally. Why do you ask?

Ok I understand it now. That's a tough break and sadly it happens to most kids. It happens due to lack of proper guidance and yet why is it happening so much? Why are parents not guiding their kids more carefully? I would like to think that I can help my kid my decisions that will ultimately serve the purpose of happiness above everything else. Added on March 28, 2010, 2:50 amQUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:44 AM) cutejam's gone? Jerome - well, there are all kind of ppl. Are you religious? QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:53 AM) But i would say my parents never forced me into anything though. Today that they realise i am good at what i like, they have like sort of understood me. I guess they were just afraid their only daughter would get herself into trouble During schooling years itself i started writing on political stuffs and they got scared of it i guess, hahaha But few days back, my mom totally told me sumthng tht i like- she told me to work in any field i like and not to listen to anyone or not to bother about any negative comments i might get for choosing to work out of my field It's good that they've learned to understand you better now. Atleast something good came out of all that. An important part of parenthood is not to project our fears and insecurities onto our children and yet at the same time be aware and fearful enough to ensure their safety. It's a very tightrope to walk on I know and easier said than done for certain. QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:53 AM) jerome - but when your kid choose something, they thought that's what they really want. If that is what they thought they wanted then I will support it and if they make a mistake, I will help them overcome it with moral support and encouragement.

QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 02:58 AM) Im pretty much religious but religious in my own way. I believe in God totally but i do not follow things blindly. I often question things that im asked to follow and only practise what i think makes sense to me. As i said i think too much and thus question a lot too. And often, people dont like that nature. Naughty you, going against the grain like that. It bugs simple minded people that you think too much. Does it bug you that you bug them?

QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:58 AM) frankly speaking I enjoyed my course until final year get tired of it And when I share about doing something new, Frankly I don't like people who questioned "Why you take this course in the first place?" "Why you continue it?" etc etc. Whatever the reason is, it's not like they can understand it, from the way they ask. Just be sure not to treat your wife the same way.

QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 03:00 AM) But i've got to say i am here today thankfully due to my parents hardwork. They never got the chance to go to college and thus made sure both their kids achieve it I have seen some of my cousins totally waste their time and parents money by enjoying life without no aims or goals Yeah well people these days are mostly that way especially the kids I know from rich families in PJ, Bangsar, Hartamas or any other high incoming places like that. They're just spoiled. Added on March 28, 2010, 3:03 amQUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 03:02 AM) I do question a lot. I do a lot of research of my own religion, I'm not born in the religious family and everytime I have a question, I'll keep searching for an answer. And I don't consider myself following religion blindly as I keep on doing and doing research for proof and even historical proof. Very good. Keep questioning and finding answers and truths bro. QUOTE(cutejams2004 @ Mar 28 2010, 03:05 AM) Good for you at least u know what ur following and believing in. Many do not really know what they are believing in. I come from a religious family though. My uncle is a monk and thus its pretty much expected that i follow my religious teachings without questioning much But my brother and i turned out to be different, lolx. We question a lot and we love talking on things like ths, on whats logical and whats not. Some times, my extremely pious cousins get sick of trying to brain wash me Sounds like you have a tight family there. Sounds good.

Lolx i guess its far from that. right now its just okay i guess. Previously it was a bumper car ride - up and down and the rhythm goes on and on, went through tough times as my parents have large families in their own respective sides. Thats why sometimes to me, despite the fact blood is thicker than water, u need water to keep the blood flowing~~friends means a lot to me. But im very close to my brother as we are twins so that accounts to an extremely tight bro-sis relationship Whoa, intense. That freaks me out. I guess I just like my own space and not have heavy relationships like these.

QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 03:19 AM) Haha no it is just a nickname. I spent alot of time in the states growing up but I was in Montreal Canada for 2 years also. In Montreal they are mainly French-Canadian and I was new in school and so the teacher asked me to stand up and introduce myself and I did and I told them my name ans they all couldn't say it because they were unfamiliar with Asian names and so this kid joked that they should just call me Jerome Dubois because that was the name of the kid that just left their class and whose place I took in class and it stuck since then. People just called me Jerome and I got used to the name too.
