Just place my order for this laptop just now, and what's the default color for this laptop? Silver + Black? I noticed it has a Color Kit option to choose, is it the one that I can choose color?

Current Status: Manufacturing build completed
Estimate Delivery Date: 24-May-2010

Finally I got the estimate delivery date, and I wonder why it take so long to deliver to me. Also is it possible that the shipment will be ariived before the estimate delivery date?

Got one question here. When I "close" the laptop, what I mean close is that bend down the LCD screen, all the activities will be terminated, included internet connection. My question is how can I set it to active instead of going to sleep mode when I close it? I just want it be functioned like desktop.

And one more question about the Win7, is the Win7 that came along with the laptop OEM version? Can I do reinstallation? If I'm not mistaken OEM version can only be used for one time only.

Control panel -> Hardware & sound -> Power option -> Choose what closing the lid does (on your left)
Or
Right-click the battery icon on the bottom right of taskbar -> power options -> Choose what closing the lid does (on your left)

I removed the default driver and installed the latest Nv driver, problem gone.

It must have something to do with the screen saver, well as long as it's not a hardware problem then it's ok.

I own the Vostro 3700 and its already giving me issues with overheating. Tried playing a 3d based game and the heat of the GPU goes up to 90 celcius within 15min. And thereafter, it just shuts down and goes to sleep automatically.

Its sad. Anyone got solution?

I read online that many had called up to Dell and asked for a motherboard change within the warranty period. Airflow problem with the 1st gen i5.

I'm also facing this problem with my Vostro 3700, I bought CM Notepal Ergostand and still overheating and shut down. Is it true that Vostro 3700 motherboard has a new revision that address the overheat problem? I bought my 3700 on March 10 and guess my 3700's motherboard is the 1st revision, just want to make sure that if I send it back to Dell and they can fix this overheating problem.

You don't need to send back to Dell, they will come to your place to do the repair..

That's mean they just come over my place and do cleaning that's all? Actually I want to replace the motherboard with newer revision(assuming the new revision of motherboard is true), I wonder they can do them at my place within one day. hmm.gif

Just want to confirm again, is it true that there's a new revision of 3700 motherboard that address the overheating problem? Need to know coz I'll request them to change the motherboard when I call Dell.

if what i hear is correct, there is a newer version to 3700, so that should be the revised version. But i think the main problem is the i5 chipset first gen. It's just too energy consuming and heaty.

My advise is use your dell warranty and buy yourself a Notepal U3. Mine should be arriving anytime soon.

BTW, this might be a newbie question, but does a Vostro 3700 use more energy compared to a 12 inch laptop for instance? ;o). I presume yes, but how can i calculate the difference?

Yesterday one guy from Dell came to my place and fixed the overheat problem, and the fact is there're no new revision of motherboard or heatsink for Vostro 3700. The reason for overheating is that after long period of use, a lot of dusts are stuck inside the heatsink and the vend, hot air has been blocked by dusts and can't go out from the vend, so end up causing the overheating.

He replaced me with a new heatsink and motherboard, now my 3700 runs very cool, no more overheat and shut down when gaming, very happy with it. cala you better call Dell and ask them to service your 3700, if your 3700's heatsink is full of dusts, getting a new laptop cooler won't help.
