so that there is coherence between what we see and what we feel during take off and landing.

but i don't think it is necessary though. for others maybe

Windows broke when Fat people turn and their ass hit the window and crack it or children crack the window but put the shade down to hide it.
Reasonable?

highly unlikely. modern aircraft windows are made from laminated (multiple layers) of various strength high impact plastics.
also, the inside layer is not the actual window that isolates the internal and external environment.

This is the VALID answer from the link given.

i read an article by a pilot and this was his explanation too:

The explanation I received is, this is to adjust our eyes to the external condition (sunny, dark) etc - so if something bad happens and passenger need to evacuate they can easily adjust to outside conditions. Also note that they (SQ) dim the lights of the cabin while landing and takeoff so that our eyes can adjust - atleast they did so during my flights with them.

because they are lazy to put the shade up themself laugh.gif

seriously they want to match the light in the plane as close to outside as possible so your eye dont need time to adjust if there emergency and you need to run for your life. like night landing they will dim the light in the cabin so that if the plane crash, you will be able to find you way out of the plane ASAP not waiting for you eye to adjust the aperture.

The air flight attendance once told me that we're not allowed to put down the shade when taking off and landing is to allow everyone to have a view on that outside to ensure nothing went wrong with the plane such as smoke coming out from the wing and etc. If a snoke were to be seen, at least the flight attendance can immediately contact the pilot to warn them, then to wait for the whole wing to explode. That will be too late. That's what she told me.

The flight attendant played u like an idiot:

1) Air traffic control tower ppl blind?

2) Take-off personnel at tarmac blind?

3) The passengers who paid 4their seat need to help the airline company to notify if they see "smoke"? So, if there is "smoke" but nobody reported, is it the passengers fault?

Come on... LOL

one thing I hate about MAS flight attendant is that when in international flight, they attend white people with big smile and big arm wide open... when attend to ASIANs, they show not happy face....

I travelled on AirAsia had the windows on during take off and landing. I was never told to shut it.

Ten years back I was on Thai Airways and had the windows on during take off. I was also not told to shut it.

Could it be a policy of certain airline?

no need to shut the curtain, just that if u shut the curtain they'll ask u to open it. every airline should be the same.
