Hi Just got HP Mini 210, specific model number 210-1073TU. It comes preloaded with windows 7 32 bit (what does this mean??) anyway I find the netbook a tad to slow for my liking since it's actually having minimal programs on it. Thus would like to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB or more if allowed.
.
I went to HP and it says for this model the max is only 1GB but however across the net I saw some guide on how to install at least 2GB on this netbook.
.
Appreciate that someone can help and provide me
a) Can HP mini 210 be upgraded to a 2GB or more?
b) If yes, can I have the specific RAM model i.e. SD or anything? Sorry I'm totally newbie in this and know nuts......Btw, how much does it cost?
c) Also would it be worth it to upgrade the RAM and will there be significant change to the speed? If there aren't, then no point lor..
.
Thanks

to the general users, 32-bit simply means u can't use more than 3GB of RAM... which is not a concern for netbook...

a) Yes
b) look for DDR2 800MHz
c) it's really up to u... currently i am using a Acer Aspire One with same spec as ur HP mini, but using Win7 Home Premium x64 (pre-loaded with XP, but it's time to move on), performance is pretty snappy... of course it's not as fast as mt C2D laptop, but is still acceptable... perhaps u can try removing the HP apps and do some housekeeping first and see how it goes...

Hihi Astria,
.
Thank for the feedback. To your answer B....DDR2 800MHz this would 2GB or 3GB or 1GB. Either I get 2GB/3GB straight or multilple of 1GB. Do you know the cost of these RAMs?
Another question with regards to HP Mini 210, how many slots are there for the RAMs. Think this question is related to the above statement as would like to know how many pieces of RAMs I should buy...budget permitted...huhuhuhu.
.
I'm new to window 7 as currently a Mac User..after not using PC for quite sometime, kena slow2 with window 7 else I'll corrupt the PC. But thanks for the advice though. And you're right, HP comes loaded with their customary applications.

it really depends... Atom N450 has been designed to take in a max of 2x 2GB of RAM, but most netbooks i see in the market have only 1 slot...

u can either open up the back panel to check how many slots the netbook has, or if u re afraid to open up (though eventually u'll need to since u want to upgrade), u can get a free program call CPU-Z, which will display all the basic hardware info of the system, including how many slots for RAM it has...

so depending on the number of slots u ve, u'll be looking at either 1 stick of 1GB RAM (if u ve 2 slots), or 1 stick of 2GB RAM (if u ve 1 slot, which also mean u'll ve 1 stick of 1GB unused also if u really upgrade)...

actually, a more economical way (if u're really budget restraint), take a piece of fast SD Card of at least 1GB (preferably 2GB) and put it into the netbook, then make use of ReadyBoost... this would use the SD card as temporary RAM... it's not as fast as RAM, but it's still faster than the HDD... that should boost the performance slightly without burning a hole in ur pocket and no unused RAM sitting around if u ve only 1 RAM slot...

I read review from someone before this stating that this model only got one slot.
So you can expand to 2GB ram only.

Yeah, I'm using this netbook too now. smile.gif

Astria,
.
Thanks. Saw the youtube on opening the back panel for the HP210..seems easy, as there're only 2 clips to open from the Batt placement...hehehehe...but just afraid I'll be unable to put it back together la....But thanks though....thought of bringing to lowyat or something to get them to do it. So 2GB is the max I can go laa, Don't think there're any 3GB RAM single stick is sold??? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif Btw, any idea of how much 2GB RAM would cost? Thanks much
.
On the economical way you've proposed...I HAVE NO IDEA on what you're talking about...hahaah rclxub.gif But will do more research on this. Thanks for the alternative......

Hey cool and great senang we can change stories....So have you upgraded to 2GB or still using 1GB? From ur reply I think you're still using 1GB?? If you're using 2GB, how's the speed, any diff to the comp usage? You're right, saw the youtube on a tutorial of changing RAM, seems theres only one slot so max can go 2GB......
.
Have you used the netbook for leisure gaming purposes? etc. like SIM ker

2GB is around RM150-160 a piece...
There's no 3GB a piece, only 4GB, but that's around RM500++ last time.....

Nope. Thought of upgrading but not yet.
I don't use this netbook for gaming. Sorry can't tell.
Normal surf internet and microsoft office applications.
Watch video also not a problem.

But battery life sucks. 3 cells battery. shakehead.gif

6 cells?

Most of us got ours from streamyx. Come with only 3 cells battery.

You'd need to boot from a USB flash drive, as most netbooks do not have a DVD/CD drive.

And setting up a WinXP bootable flash drive won't be as straightforward as for WinVista or Win7.

I think, you should add more RAM, or switch off those visual themes.

Do you know why it's called a netbook and not a notebook?

because it's supposed to only surf net, not gaming.

And yeah, the Alienware M11x is pointless.

Better to get at least an Inspiron 14. Around RM1700.

At the very least, its a proper notebook.

Dapat free from Stremyx. Not all want to have this netbook so they are selling it off.
I bought from one of the forumer cheaply also. Seal and unopened.

RM50 X 24 months = RM1200 only. You get a free netbook+ internet service.
Good deal.

Wow the thread has grown..hahahah yeap same here I got it free from streamyx as well but it was a TM staff package so running the normal 2MB line but still get netbook free....my first pc in many years as using mac....
.
Anyway I've upgraded to 2GB RAM 800mhz DDR2.....honestly, I don't see much diff maybe I'm not running office yet, but just feel it's a bit tad faster when loading. But somehow, seems the same....Maybe I'll start with cleaning up my netbook to take out all those background working programs from HP....seems lagging the whole damn machine...
.
so 2GB works fine but whether or not worth it...hmmm dunno yet...gotta install office and we shall see if it's lagging...
.
But one thing I notice, I dun like the trackpad. Reason being it's all in one..my habit is to rest one finger on the left trackpad button for fast clicking, but with HP210 I can't due to it's one piece, so resting one finger on the left button registers as multitouch...aiyaaa..... doh.gif

So you fixed it by yourself or took your mini there for them to fix it?

Yeah, and I don't like the track pad. So many times the cursor went the wrong way because I wanted to click. Very weird. rclxub.gif

check hp mini 210 thread in d FP

.
Saw the guy in Lowyatt did it. Quite easy though.
.
Take out the battery and you'll see two orange tab. Push both tabs, and the back panel should come out. You may have to pry it would ur nails or something if it gets stuck....not for the faint hearted, as at a certain point I thought the guy would certainly break the panel..hahaha..
.
Thereafter the RAM place is accessible. Taking out the RAM is much easier....
.
Then place back the panel and ur ready to roll!!!! .
.
Youtube also got... icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
.
Anyway FR on 2GB over the weekend...hmmm seems faster whether physically or psychologically... Yet to clean the laptop up further of all the 3rd party HP apps which is not required. Should be faster there after. ..
.
Regards

Hi,

My 210 is using XP ( pre installed ) with Atom 450.

I find the Wireless reception of this netbook is quite poor, esp if it is used on the first floor while the modem is stationed on the ground.

I use to get only best 2 bars, while my ( other ) Asus netbook manages to get 4 to 5 bars. Though, I upgrade with the latest driver, I am still faced with the same problem.

Speed wise, it is pretty fast.

Does anyone of you face the same problem ?

Shall I send to HP service centre for a check.

My is not from Telekom.

Guys..need a clarification here...I want to upgrade the Ram...i know we can do it up to 2Gb...according to this thread, it is advisable to upgrade to DDR2 800...but upon checking on Intel webpage regarding Intel ATOM N450 , it stated the memory types is DDR2 667
Any idea?

well, that's the confusing part...

even when u look at apps like Everest, they will tell u that N450 runs RAM at 667MHz, but many ppl who use N450 netbook report that DDR2 667 RAM do not work... only DDR2 800 will work...

in either case, juz grab DDR2 800, u wouldn't go wrong with it...

Yup, agree with astria...well, just few days ago got a friend of mine brought over his Mini 210 to me saying that got RAM problem...upon checking find out that he's using 667Mhz one and got some conflict with the system which i wonder why..change with my 800Mhz, then Netbook works fine rclxub.gif...for a safer choice, go for 800Mhz...just wondering why N450 can't work with 667Mhz RAM unsure.gif

anybody play games on the hp mini?
e.g. like dota?
does it run smoothly?
just wanna get some feedbacks from u guys
xD

ps: if let say u bought an extra sd card to replace a better ram i think i personally agree on it....
but make sure u get a 4gb or 8gb card.... then....this storage u can store them with ur windows in case u guys wanna reformat in future.

I'm using this netbook now, 6 cell , battery life great!!

DOTA is laggy, as mentioned by other forumers. i'm an avid DOTA player myself, but seldom play anymore due to people call me noob for slow reaction to gangbangs using this netbook.. ~_~

I want to thank TS and forumers here for info on RAM upgrade and optional readyboost skill.

by the way, not sure whether people notice this, but if you go through settings of touchpad, you can opt for the 'disable touchpad when usb mouse connected'. means, usb mouse in = touchpad off, usb mouse out = touchpad on. it helps a lot when u're always moving and disconnecting hardware, don't need to manually double-tap top left of your touchpad.

i have upgraded my hp mini 210 to 2GB 667mhz(sacrifice speed for space) get it free from my friend old faulty notebook , running fine. no ned spend to upgrade is the best ideal.

the performance have a little bit increase when u surf web with firefox(i installed many useful plugin)

changing the RAM is very simple ,pulls out the plastic cover and toolless.(juz like open the back cover of some hand phone to put sim and battery like tat)
