Well, you can always check by typing "rpm -qa|grep gaim" and see whether it's installed in your system.

If it's not installed yet, I would suggest that you install it in console mode.

the error msg is....

[amdunfreak@localhost amdunfreak]$ rpm -i gaim-1.1.4-0rh9.i386.rpm
warning: gaim-1.1.4-0rh9.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 883c1c14
error: Failed dependencies:
libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-1.1.4-0rh9

what is the libgtkspell.so.O?
i know i shouldn't ask like noobs here...
but.. i successfully installed opera.rpm and got it running.

there's an old version of gaim in the linux redhat9 already, but only support AOL and ICQ nia. the newer version can use icq, msn, yahoo...

Prefer the command-line interface "rpm" or get add-ons like Yum, the package resolver, which makes installation of packages easy. E.g. for Red Hat Linux, the old http://fedora.us project provides Yum and Apt-RPM (plus Synaptic, the graphical package utility).

What's the error message? Which distribution are you using?

use console mode to install it.
there should be a message telling you why it cannot be installed.
Eg:-
Failed dependencies.. etc
