Hi all,

Just wanna ask all the HT guru here,

What is a good starting set of components for a newbie assembling a simple 5.1 HT system?

I already have a 32" HD ready Toshiba LCD, a set of 5 satellites.

Now looking for a cheap and decent AVR and also subwoofer.

System will be used for mainly Videos and Music played from a PC (Blu-ray and downloaded Videos/Music)

My lappy has SPDIF (Optical Out), Analogue 5.1 and also HDMI Out

Any good recommendations? My budget is around 2K++ for both (i know its not alot but thats what i have left cry.gif )

Thanks for the reply in advance rclxms.gif

Thanks for the replies,

Sioe : Thanks for the link but i dont know really which is which (brand name and features) rclxub.gif

VSX-AX2as : Yes HTiB are within my budget but i already got my satellites so dont wanna waste on getting another set, and from what heard HTiB are a level below good Entry level AVR that are in the market now.

I dont mind getting used items but can someone explain some basic functions that i should look out for when comparing AVR (i.e Dolby Sounds Systems Thingamajig). Iam a fairly clueless when it comes to that but i do have some videos that are encoded with TrueHD 5.1 and Dolby Digital ACS 5.1

Why am i getting my cluless self into this? cause i got a good lappy with all this function and it seems a waste not to fully utilise it. Acer 6935G (Blu-ray player, Dolby Digital Home Theater Sound) and i love watching HD movies (can even see and count the bulu brows.gif )

if you just need basic Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1, i think desa still have some old models priced ~RM700.

Okay going to window shop at Desa HT Kepong this evening,

Any recommendation of AVR and subs that i should look out for?

AVR Base Line Function should include 5.1, DD, DTS, HDMI Video input/output (minimum 3 for PC, BD player and PS3), 1 Optical (PC, HDMI sometimes got problem with sound) and some auto speaker calibration function (Noob here i dont think i can manually set up my speakers cry.gif )

As for Subs, as long as i can BOOM BOOM POW!!! Happy here rclxms.gif

Room size is small bedroom 9 feet all around (yah small box heheh blush.gif )

Total Budget is RM2k+ (cant top up liow cry.gif )

willkso : Thanks for the link notworthy.gif , looked into that thread and found some candidate, will look out for them at the shop.

Thanks for all the replies so far.
