My 3 years old Asus laptop's screen just went blank out of sudden. The sound and indicator lights still doing perfectly fine. Any idea?

Im looking for new laptop. Preferably 14 inch, budget around 3k. Gonna use it for work and play.

What i currently have in mind are Asus U45jc, A42ja and of course the hot cake -> Acer 4820tg. Any suggestion?

Why does i cant find any reference about this notebook Asus X42Jr, i7 740QM + ATi HD5470 is it already discontinued product ?

Hey guys can anyone help me determine which of these 2 laptops are more worth it?

Both of them have the same price but the compaq one is using AMD phenom 2 triple core processor while hp is using intel i3 380M.

Which of these 2 procs are more powerful? Will the AMD proc runs hotter than the Intel one?

Cause the last laptop I had kept overheating so now im a lil more cautious in choosing the one with a cooler temperature.

i3 380M is still faster, but its freeDOS while the AMD one got Windows 7 Home Premium...
As for heat, both should run cool unless there's something wrong with the heatsink/design, the AMD P840 has 25W in spite of having triple core, and also the CQ42 has switchable GPU which might help conserve little bit of battery life....
