I'm using a vanette c22, 8 years old. So now when stopping at incredible traffic jams, the van temperature slowly goes up. Almost reach the "H" by another few millimeter. My foreman tells me old vans are like this, because inside there is only 1 fan. So his proposal is to modify the aircon fins by putting them in a sleeping/lying down position, away from the van's radiator. Add another fan for the aircon fins, and when both the aircon fins and the radiator are separated, there is less heat congested together. This is solve the problem. Anyone tried this before?

His quote is RM480 for everything. The new fan with a plastic cover for the aircon fins will fit the whole casing, covering every inch.

Yup, stuck at traffic jams only will have such problems. I use toyota coolant after flush with normal water for 5-10 minutes. So very confident maybe not radiator dirty, but i could be wrong.

Hi n8210,
How is your previous "engine die halfway" problem?

BTW, I recommend you this one:

Y M Radiator Specialist

No. 60, Jalan SS 19/7, Subang Jaya
Selangor 47500
Malaysia

Tel: 03-5635 6096
HP: 017-336 9627

He is good at fixing all sorts of problems and he can overhaul your radiator.
Last time he did my Sunny for around RM 100 inclusive overhaul radiator, coolant and welding.

Sorry guys, been busy.

Thanks for the tips everyone, and SleeplessEyes. I will visit Y M. I have been to one shop in SS19 but it was a bit expensive. They charge me RM35 for the red toyota coolant. So after that I didn't go back.

As for the engine keep on dying, well... the problem lies with the carburetor. Did change the fuel filter and clean everything else, like the plugs and contact points, etc... it starts up perfectly.. 1 quick turn on the key and the engine starts immediately within seconds, but... when the problem starts, it keeps dying when I stop at traffic lights, or jam etc... But there are days when the problem does not happen at all. In the end, I sold the van. Like One FM says, "be tahan".

Well, I have always spent some money with the coolant. I flush them almost every year although not necessary. And I add 1-2 bottles of toyota coolant before this. This time I am trying out another brand, SPC from Singapore. Any good?

It is a very common van, so many of them, but yet the mechanics I have asked don't know the problem. They have not come across or fix such problems before.

Added on May 16, 2011, 3:04 pmIn the end, I think I have discovered the problem. The distributors connecting to the spark plug cables needs changing. I didn't change them until too much wear and tear, which is only this year. After changing them, the van performs like new. More powerful and won't "die" in the middle of the road. Oh, I did installed another 2nd fan. That helps with the cooling.
