I'm using a vanette c22, 8 years old. So now when stopping at incredible traffic jams, the van temperature slowly goes up. Almost reach the "H" by another few millimeter. My foreman tells me old vans are like this, because inside there is only 1 fan. So his proposal is to modify the aircon fins by putting them in a sleeping/lying down position, away from the van's radiator. Add another fan for the aircon fins, and when both the aircon fins and the radiator are separated, there is less heat congested together. This is solve the problem. Anyone tried this before?

His quote is RM480 for everything. The new fan with a plastic cover for the aircon fins will fit the whole casing, covering every inch.

driving long distance will not have temp prob, coz its cruising, have sufficient air to cool down the engine. TS prob occur when stuck in traffic jam.

Yup, stuck at traffic jams only will have such problems. I use toyota coolant after flush with normal water for 5-10 minutes. So very confident maybe not radiator dirty, but i could be wrong.

i remember my last c22 don't have a overflow radiator tank. so need to monitor the water frequently, especially after stuck in heavy jam, coolant water will be loss and temperature meter iwill raise higher.
basic model c/w 1 fan, when u add a 2nd aircon blower, the aircon guy wil add a 2nd fan.

my opinion is
1. add a 2nd fan.
2. modify / add a radiator overflow tank like most car.

yeah... i tot the one i drove was weird without overflow tank... there is an overflow hose connected to the radiator and it leads to nowhere... when it overheats, it jz drains out the water/coolant... doh.gif

i was like WTF when i inspected the car before long journey drive to terengganu... doh.gif

TS
1st make sure ur existing cooling system is physically ok, ie, no leaks, water not murky/rusty, termostat etc.

As mentioned by some forummers:
- Add a 2nd fan
- Add a reserve tank

Btw, i do think the 480 charge is over his head.

Hi, TS is your C22 with double blower i.e i mean double aircon radiator. I also suffer same problem when stuck in jam. It is due to built up heat from the aircon radiator that coz your temp to go high. The hot air is trapped in the engine compartment, no way out. I think need to install exhaust fan to remove the heat from the poorly design engine compartment. It looks like a cavity...If you see the needle going up, Wind down your mirror and switch off your air con. In no time at all the needle will go 1/4 way. less you suffer gasket burnt....You see what i mean.

No need to flush your radiator or check for leaks...I have done that before, it does not help

Sorry guys, been busy.

Thanks for the tips everyone, and SleeplessEyes. I will visit Y M. I have been to one shop in SS19 but it was a bit expensive. They charge me RM35 for the red toyota coolant. So after that I didn't go back.

As for the engine keep on dying, well... the problem lies with the carburetor. Did change the fuel filter and clean everything else, like the plugs and contact points, etc... it starts up perfectly.. 1 quick turn on the key and the engine starts immediately within seconds, but... when the problem starts, it keeps dying when I stop at traffic lights, or jam etc... But there are days when the problem does not happen at all. In the end, I sold the van. Like One FM says, "be tahan".

Added on May 14, 2010, 12:25 pmHoyHoySum, no, mine is not a double blower. It is single blower but my problem is exactly like yours. That's why the 2 mechanics I have visit, both asked me to modify my van.

Well, I have always spent some money with the coolant. I flush them almost every year although not necessary. And I add 1-2 bottles of toyota coolant before this. This time I am trying out another brand, SPC from Singapore. Any good?

ah ha.. I faced the same frustuation with my van also. n did the same as u do..... sell it.
morning need to start 10 - 15 times, need to blow n when slow down, have to keep rpm high 2000rpm or engine die off. so the mystery still not known to me.

It is a very common van, so many of them, but yet the mechanics I have asked don't know the problem. They have not come across or fix such problems before.

Added on May 16, 2011, 3:04 pmIn the end, I think I have discovered the problem. The distributors connecting to the spark plug cables needs changing. I didn't change them until too much wear and tear, which is only this year. After changing them, the van performs like new. More powerful and won't "die" in the middle of the road. Oh, I did installed another 2nd fan. That helps with the cooling.
