Bro, one thing you have to consider that you need to install the correct codec with the correct OS version x64, x86.

The rest will be taken care by the filters. While playing mkv, avi, divX, anything.

The media info not important .. but you could use it to google your concern or questions..

Media Player Classic + Latest Haali Media Splitter

All you need is in this package: http://www.cccp-project.net/

Too much codec/players might cause issues.
At least that was the problem for me.
I did a clean reinstall of my OS, and stuck to CCCP ever since.
It works flawlessly.

I'm just running minimum spec - 2GB memory and a 256MB video card.

I am experiencing the same too with my other laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 6400, Intel C2D 1.66Ghz, 3GB ram, and an ATi X1400 256MB (but on win 7 detected as 128MB =( ).. I think it's because my lappy is a bit under powered. And VLC is not great for me coz it's still lag. But amazingly, Window Media Player got me rocking. Played the video smoothly. i will try your solutions. Thanks.
