Guys,

Need some pointers please, if you don't mind helping.

Planning to knock up a quick HTPC from my current old desktop. It has an old Gigabyte G31M-ES2L mobo running on E5500 with 2GB of RAM. My aim is to have a small footprint, low power consuming box which for downloading (got Unifi at home) and some light-weight gaming, connecting to my 50" plasma. Please advise on what to get (best bang-for-the-buck for a budget of around RM500):
- casing (with PSU)
- GC
- 2TB drive

Thank you.

A 2TB drive will cost you around RM280. With that purchased, you left RM220 for a GC, PSU and casing. With that budget you can get a low end casing with a questionable PSU @ around RM80 at lowyat plaza and a Gigabyte 5450 GC @ around RM140.

Cool.. what sort of casing within RM100? So if I don't need a blueray disk, they I can lower down my budget to RM1000?

I know there's a lot of ciplak casing around RM80-RM100. Quality wise I'm not sure, I've never own those before. Definitely usable, but nothing impressive.

Of course you can go without bd-rom or dvd-rom, just install your OS using USB thumb drive.

Then just need to hunt for a nice casing. Nice one!! Thanks kianwee.

A decent one without breaking the bank would be Silverstone LC17. Should be around RM380

I think there's a few here using this model.

hi, will the config that you suggested fits into micro or mini-ATX casing?

The motherboard is a micro ATX mobo.
