Check your xbox whether it comes with a digital sound output, either a optical or coaxial out options. If yes, you can connect the audio separately from xbox to your avr.

This cable comes with a HDMI cable & AV xbox connector to optical adapter for your digital audio connection. Get another optical cable to connect from your xbox (via this adapter) and to your AVR. As for the video, maintain the HDMI cable from your xbox to your monitor. So, you can use both the HDMI and adapter at the same time.
