Hi guys,

I'm using a 24" LCD monitor with HDMI input for playing games on my XBOX 360.
My problem is, there's no AUDIO OUT from the monitor ... currently, the sound is coming out from the monitor's built-in speakers.
It's really terrible (sound reproduction/volume)

Anybody know of a speaker system that has HDMI IN & OUT so that I can "pass through" and get better audio?

Thanks in advance!

ps./ yes, I'm have limited budget...

Check your xbox whether it comes with a digital sound output, either a optical or coaxial out options. If yes, you can connect the audio separately from xbox to your avr.

dirtrun: thanks for replying. do you mean audio visual receiver? yeah, i guess that would be ideal, especially to process all the high quality data and output to quality speakers.

I'm looking for a budget upgrade to the monitor internal speakers; something i can put on that same table as my monitor.

Added on March 12, 2010, 10:45 amDigitalTech: problem is... the A/V output from the xbox is a propriety connector ... it does convert to the normal rca (red & white) heads ... but the way they designed the thing ... i can't plug-in BOTH HDMI and the A/V connector at the same time! damn!

is it influenced by HDMI cable type? there are 3 types of HDMI cable, ie, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 ?

I think this cable can solve your problem.
http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4447

Attached Image

This cable comes with a HDMI cable & AV xbox connector to optical adapter for your digital audio connection.

Get another optical cable to connect from your xbox (via this adapter) and to your AVR.
As for the video, maintain the HDMI cable from your xbox to your monitor.

So, you can use both the HDMI and adapter at the same time.

You can buy this cable (HDMI + adapter) from this thread:

Yes, I've checked with my previous customers that you can use both the HDMI and this adapter at the same time.

The original Microsoft AV connector & the separate HDMI cable for the Xbox 360 cannot be connected together because the so called "dongle" of the AV connector is too big, partly blocking the HDMI socket. You need an adapter to connect both.

3 options:-

1. Buy the original Microsoft adapter for about RM180.00.

2. Buy a 3rd party adapter for about RM30.00. Can get from Ebay.

3. Hack the original AV connector. Roughly that is use a screw driver to dismantle the big plastic "dongle" so that when you connect back there will be enough space for the HDMI cable. It will be a tight fit. Make sure you insulate with some tape the exposed connector.

I took the 2nd option. When to a few shops that sells Xbox 360 in KL & PJ to look for it but could not get it. So got fed up & bought from Ebay at the following website http://cgi.ebay.com.my/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...:EOIBSA:MY:1123

You need an account with Ebay to buy. Got no account so got a friend who has an account to buy. Took about 3 weeks to received the product.

Go for the 3rd option if you are adventurous. Just google it & you will find written instructions & video on how to do it.

Thanks

Good for you.

I got mine for about RM30.00 3 weeks later (hdmi cable + audio adapter) after purchasing online through my son-in-law ebay account.

Thanks
