yes, N97 camera have auto focus, picture is considered ok for camera phone for me..you can check the image sample here

and yes, N97 have gps support, i used Garmin on my previous N97..Ovi Maps also ok

my backup is located at My Document --> Ovi Folder --> Backup Folder..should be the same with yours

I'm not sure Nokia salesman have the knowledge to install or adjust the settings..but you can try..basically it's up to the user what to install and what setting to use...you can always refer to the front page for the normal settings...and you don't need to install antivirus for symbian device as it is not necessary.

And the Latest software release for Nokia N97 is 22.0.110. You can ask Nokia centre to update it for you or else update yourself via Nokia Ovi Suite.

btw, why not consider latest symbian^3 device like Nokia E7? (if you're looking for physical keyboard)..It's more faster and smooth. N97 is kinda outdated already. I'm afraid your friend will have trouble managing the low RAM available and throw it away
