There is a separate little 4:3 button and 16:9 button. I find the 4:3 (Pan and Scan) very useful for watching old shaw brothers movies in full screen. No noticeable stretched images

Thanks for your feedback.

Actually the fan is very loud, but with the movie on and me sitting 15 ft away it doesn't bother me. I don't mind the fan, I believe it will allow the internal HD to stay cool (Disclaimer I have yet to install the internal HDD, but am waiting to get a 1.5 TB WD caviar green)

Yangxi, I really suggest you link/sticky tracktion3's post in your other thread here as well when there are questions about BT and SAMBA
It had really helped me and I do understand the frustration of the buyers when they want to use BT. (But in Yangxi's defence, I really doubt other media player seller will provide BT/SAMBA support via the product official doc....) it is just that for whatever reason the firmware provided 'officially' by Yangxi only has ONE version that supports installing BT SAMBA. All others will fail. So please downgrade as per tracktion3's instruction, install BT/SAMBA and only then upgrade to the firmware that you want.

Yangxi is right, do not upgrade the firmware if it is stable unless there is some new feature that you want in the newer firmware

For example, I have a optical output from my HDPRO to my old Yamaha 6.1 amp (no HDMI on my amp) and I am using Yangxi's Mar 8 2010 firmware as it has everything I need which is DTS/Dolby Multichannel trackfor some files (I have to manually change the setup to use SPDIF RAW but it is a small problem) And then I will change back to SPDIF LPCM for my other files which only has stereo track.). Older versions had issues with SPDIF RAW.

I found the solution.

1. downgrade the firmware from here. http://www.datage.com.cn/download/YG_Jan_21_2010.rar

2. Install BT and SAMBA

3. Re install the new firmware from here.

Enjoy!

I have the original HDPro with the Firmware: ZF Nov 10 2010(26) and SDK Version 08-16-2010. I have just realised that when I use my HDPro file manager to copy or move files to the SATA HD from my USB HD, the CRC get changed sad.gif

The CRC does not get changed when I copy over the network. Is this is known problem?

Hi Yangxi, I will try out the new firmware.

Do you have any idea of the type of changes that caused the CRC change? I had a lot of files copied and I dont have backups for some of them sad.gif
The video file still seems to be playable

I found out this problem also,  december firmware already fix.

if still happen ,afraid usb controller ic problem
or bootrom problem (need serial tools 4pin recover back)

Hi Yangxi, after some more thorough testing, the file manager copy is still unreliable, what happens is that the file size will be slightly increased - normally 1k to 3k. I have found if this happens to video files, it will still be playable and there is still a way to fix the file (if you know the original file size). If you have generated a SFV file, the SFV file will have the file size. I download a freeware utility "trunc.exe" and you just have to use it to truncate the file to fix it.

The only reliable fast way to copy files to the HDpro HDD now is to attach the USB host cable to my notebook so that the HDpro internal HDD is detected as a linux-backed-storage USB device - And then copy the files.

So sad if this is a h/w problem with the USB... sad.gif I will be checking out this problem again when I update the firmware... (I mean future firmware as I have already tested the one dated: 29/12/2010)

What HDD model u use ?  New HDD, did u format from player ?

HDD is the WD Caviar Green 1.5 TB. When I installed the HDD, I used the HDpro to format the player (I did this to make sure the BT/SAMBA was working - which it is)

Ok... seemed there is no solution except to switch sound from TV to AVR when no sound output from Optical connection...  sad.gif

Another solution is just use the "Setup" button on the remote to directly go to setup and change the SPDIF from "RAW" to "LPCM Dual-Channel" if your file only has Stereo. Change it back to RAW when you have Dolby AC3 etc files to play

Hi Yangxi,
Am using the HDPro that you first brought in (not the HDPro+)
My setup is
HDPro - Optical -> Yamaha 6.1 Amp (My amp does not support HDMI)
HDPro - HDMI -> Pana Plasma TV

Recently I have been trying some 720p HQ videos and I am having problems with the audio.
There is no sound if I select SPDIF - RAW and it only works with SPDIF LPCM Dual-Channel; but which only gives me stereo sad.gif
I realise that the audio in the video files (MKV or MP4) that I have problem with is AAC.
Example is the file below

Is this a known issue?? I have tried all these firmware below and still have the same issue.

That's because your Yamaha amp doesn't support the AAC decoding.. So, when raw being output to the amp, there isn't any sound came out..

Thanks wilkso, I guess thats why blush.gif
Guess there is no chance of any available firmware to support LPCM multichannel for SPDIF?

Using the 1st HDpro, non + ver with the latest firmware, seems to be much faster operation in the player navigation and media starting playback,

Anyone managed to update this?

Have upgraded to this "Hdpro_20110923.rar" on my 1st batch HDpro from "Hdpro_20110406_oem.rar"

Don't notice much difference other than
1. the main menu is back to the old original HDpro main menu (Browser, IMS, File Copy, Setup)
2. No more "Apps" but samba and torrent still there.
3. Setup Audio now has "TrueHD/DTS-HD output" - which can set to "HDMI RAW (7.1-CH)" or "SPDIF 5.1-CH only"

Was hoping it would fix some of my mkv file problems - unable to auto play past the 1st track to 2nd track (workaround have to forward manually) but NO joy.

Just got this Realtek 1186 player from Yangxi, I am very impressed with the video performance.

Pros
1. The 1080p planet earth mkv sample (16 reframes) plays without problems full sound and no pixelization at all
- I have tested a few other 1080p complete movie files that was unplayable on my hdpro with SUCCESS as well (previously just playable on a powerful notebook)
2. FINALLY no more screeching sounds during playback of AAC (using SPDIF LPCM to my yamaha amp via optical cable)
- plays more softly but no sound issues anymore, just have to turn up the volume of my amp
3. Scan media to allow the use of the Music icon is quite useful - you can select to view the playlist or album which is great
4. Samba network share performance is quite good (had to disable password as no idea what is the user/password)
- I use this to copy files to the hard disk
5. The hard disk which I used for HDpro I could just put into the hard disk tray without formatting and it works
- To install: just had to align the hard disk with 1 screw hole of the tray in the middle on one side of the hard disk only. The other screw hole on the hard disk is held by the 2 hooks in the tray.
-UPDATE1-
6. Tested with the "Logitech Wireless Combo MK220" keyboard and mouse and it works beautifully - feels like using a new internet TV. The mobile browser is fast and responsive.
-UPDATE2-
7. Android App: Tested Angry Bird and Fruit Slice games. Controls are quite responsive with the mouse.
8. Android App: Tested PPTV. This is similar to what is available at Apple AppStore. Streaming video works very well with Unifi 5mbps, video is smooth and looks good with no lag.
9. As Yangxi mentions, the Samba/BT password is admin/123 (I think no way to change it at the moment)
10. There is still some screeching noise for some AAC playback (SPDIF LPCM) but still acceptable as much less of a problem than the HDpro 1st batch.

Cons:
1. Default menu on 1st startup is in Chinese. Had to guess the setup button and go to language (lucky got it with first try to set to English)
2. Default thumbnail view results in slower interface compared to HDpro (but you can set it back to list view - which is like hdpro)
3. Scan media to allow the use of the Movie icon is not so useful - cannot really sort/organise the movies
4. DTV icon since not usable - wish there is a way to just disable it from appearing.
5. Does not seem to have a way to enable subtitles automatically and autosave subtitles setting like hdpro
- Always have to enable subtitles manually and select positioning, size, color all the time
6. The remote control is quite different from the DatAge remote. The volume control button is a bit small and in an awkward location.

Will update this post only when I have more usage clocked in to this player....
*As not sure if should continue more posts in this HDpro thread

already restore to default, and its working good, but it will eventually happen again the next time.
if i were to set to 720, would it mean i wont ba able to watch 1080?
*
Did you enable 1024p 24Mhz? (I think this applies to blu-ray images only) DISABLE that unless you're sure your TV supports it.
I suspect if you set to 720 and your source is 1080p, then you will not be able to see the proper 1080p.
You can also try set it to auto which works well for me as well with my FullHD plasma TV. If your TV is HD-ready, you can set to 1080i. I have no problems setting it to 1080p as well on the same TV.
