Anyone has tried chinese subtitles with HDpro range of products ? Specifically I would like to know :-
1. For external subtitles (eg *srt) , does it accept utf8 encoding or it must be gb18030/big5 encoding ?
2. For mkv contained chinese subtitles, is it utf8 encoding ?
Reason for checking these is that some of the media players I have used can't display chinese sub properly.

QUOTE(PoorMan @ Jan 9 2011, 12:04 AM) Default is UTF8 but can change encoding to BIG5 (and others). I don't remember seeing GB18030 though. Is that the same as GBK for simplified Chinese? GB18030 is compatible with GBK with some difference. Basically GB18030 is ( simplified chinese + traditional chinese ), it is a superset of GB2312 ( simplified chinese only ). When converting a simplified chinese text from utf8 to gb18030, it is effectively the same as converting it to GB2312.

QUOTE(yangxi @ Feb 8 2011, 12:44 AM) the mini usb port is connect to PC. not to external hdd. only use normal usb port (2x). What is the purpose of the mini usb port ? Does it make the media player behave like a docking station, ie after connecting the mini usb to the PC, the PC will be able to browse the HDD like browsing a usb HDD ? Example of a media player which works also as a docking station :- http://world-latest-tech.blogspot.com/2009...ng-station.htmlPhysical appearance is one thing, the main point is that when connecting to a host PC, the host PC will browse the HDD like a USB-connected HDD. There is no need to disconnect or pull out the HDD and put it into a different enclosure ! This post has been edited by puchongite: Feb 9 2011, 04:11 PM

QUOTE(PoorMan @ Feb 24 2011, 02:05 AM) Tried it just now on my HDPro 1073DD. It plays but with a lot of artefacts and a bit of skipping. Thanks for the info. Was it a 1073DD or 1073DD+ ? Just wonder if the plus version will do better .... It's not the fault of the media player anyway! Profile 5.1 is mostly overkill. Thank you once again.

QUOTE(PoorMan @ Feb 24 2011, 05:10 PM) No plus. Mine is just regular 1073DD. The plus version is able to pass-thru HD audio but otherwise the same. My guess is that it will be the same. Likely. Hope some readers will try it. QUOTE Not sure if the 1055 will fare better. Unlikely.
