samir nasri was impressive when there is no fabregas.
because he can play in his favourite position, in the middle. nasri loves to run and beat defender, while fabregas use his intelligence and vision for killer pass. but when both on the field, nasri seems isolated a bit. thats just my opinion. |

QUOTE(kanelee @ Mar 10 2010, 06:23 AM) Off topic-was going to buy the Arsenal away jersey later on,between Vermaelen and Nasri which one is a better choice to print on ah?Kinda torn between them..or maybe I just put another RvP..haha! If you're tall, go for Vermaelen. If you're not, go for Nasri. And if you choose Nasri, get yourself a pair of flowery underpants to go with it I missed last night's match haiih... I clicked SportingLife and watched through my fingers as I wait for the page to load. 5-0!! Hahaha told you guys that Bendtner will bayar hutang. Next up - Phil Brown away. We are hitting form people! |

QUOTE(sigheart @ Mar 10 2010, 10:17 AM) Not to dampen the mood here but as mesmerising Arshavin is today attacking wise I'm not the very least impressed with his sloppiness in our own half which could have presented Porto a goal. A better side would have made us pay and I hope its just a one off. i am in total agreement. although we totally dominated the attacking portion of the pitch, we were defensively naive, surprisingly. sol campbell didn't have a night to remember... his shakiness caused us some heart stopping moments. vermaelen had to be an absolute monster (his super tackle towards the end of the game was just class. pure defensive class) to cover for him and also campbell's lack of pace and case of the jitters. I'll be skipping this poll this time around. Simply because I don't have a favourite apart from Fabregas and Fabregas isn't my favourite either. As long as you wear the red and white then you have my support. A more general poll next time would be better IMO. clichy was good, but his one schoolboy mistake where he total mistimed a routine clearance header could've cost us very dearly. similarly, song was good, but there were a few times that he got sucked into the attacking momentum and then he ended up losing the ball, leaving a huge gap in the middle. so again, it would seem like concentration and discipline is something that the arsenal players must focus on. and like sigheart mentioned, the hero of them all was arshavin, doing all kinds of needless stunts and skills in our own half which wasn't the best thing to do. a couple of times he misplaced his passes very nonchalantly in the first half and it returned the attacking impetus to porto. so yes, the short one needs to buck up defensively. and that miss for what would've been the 3rd goal, that's almost unforgivable. =) aeroberg messaged me to wonder whether arshavin would get the same kinda condemnation bendtner would've received if it was bendtner who missed that chance instead. i guess i know the answer... =) but overall, let's not take the gloss of the game. bendtner silenced his critics just like how walcott did by proving it on the pitch. i thought his penalty was absolutely beautiful. with penalties like these, even if the keeper can guess the right spot, he can't reach the ball cause it's right at the side. arshavin was tormentor in chief on the left and an attacking performance from him like that has been long overdue. my favourite player: vermaelen. his contribution has been immense not just defensively, but scoring 8 goals for a defender during his debut season is really impressive. he doesn't talk big, just keeps his head down and gets the job done. |

Actually, what we had last night (with Fabregas' absence) was something we experienced before in Henry's absence.
Before this, Henry's absence left the team with no clear focal point of attack or passes. Everyone was not pressured to pass the ball to him, thus everyone was more daring to try out what they wanted. Yesterday, we noticed that without Fabregas, the passes were distributed quite evenly to the attackers (Nasri, Arshavin etc). I have no comment if this is always good but once in awhile, it does change the game we play. I also agree that we didn't do well defensively. Luckily Porto players were not effective in front of the goal. Considering our below-par and missing some key players in defence recently, I would prefer facing non-EPL team. The other 2 teams' strikers would have scored those chance Porto players had QUOTE(lipkhin @ Mar 10 2010, 09:32 AM) walao!!! wat a goal by nasri and arshavin's efforts! who missed the match can view all the goals here: http://www.goalvideo.net/champions-league/...enal-5-0-porto/ QUOTE(sakaito @ Mar 10 2010, 11:04 AM) instant highlights at http://www.arsenalist.com Will put this up on the front page it was up 10 minutes after the game. kudos to Arsenalist. THE SUN today unreservedly apologises to Nicklas Bendtner after his stunning treble sent the Gunners storming into the Champions League quarter-finals.
