I and my boyfriend would like to buy an apartment soon.
I was told that if I want to put 2 name on the properties, the 2 person must be related such as husband&wife, brother & sister, father&son,....etc.

So, he said we must register our marriage first before buying a property. Is it true?

You can put 2 unrelated people's name on the property, but it may be questioned by the bank and it is usually not encouraged.

If you already have plans to get married, its recommended you register first before buying.

Congratulations in advance =)

Please feel free to contact me for anything loan or property related.

Most banks dont ask for Marriage contract to prove you're husband and wife.

But like I said, its not recommended.

Currently I'm helping one of my clients who bought a property and applied loan together with his gf at that time. Sadly the relationship didnt work out. So now he's got to incur lots of headache and cost to straighten out the issue.

i agreed with ROY you better join name after both of you married. Just in case everything didnt work out how you divide the house in to 1/2? Then both of you will start paying for the court case.

You can put anyone's name. I just bought a house with my bf, borrow loan with 2 names also and approved in 3 days time, no question asked.

the 2 names on the SPA can be unrelated, friends, business partner or even strangers... if you buy cash. smile.gif

whether will the bank approve your loan application is you are getting one, now that is another question entirely.

Naive lady,

if both of you plan to get marry in the near future, you may request your mortgage officer to declare the applicants as fiance fiancee.

BUT in your scenario, my advice to you is to avoid having the 2 names in ur SPA before you are officially engaged or married.

if the whole story goes south, you have a heck of issues to rectify, and trust me... mortgages and properties are things which are REALLY REALLY ugly when you try to resolve it when things like this happens
