Hai all,

I'm newbie in android gadgets. But i really love this OS since last year.
Just now i could save my money and plan to buy android phone.

What android phone do you suggest for RM1500 price range?

I do browsing, and i get these phone for new one:
HTC Hero aroun RM1800
HTC Magic around RM 1450
HTC Tattoo aroun RM1200

And for second/used one:
HTC Hero around RM1400

What about Motorola Milestone? Has it available in Malaysia?
LG-GW20??
Xperia X10?

---
For the price within my budget, the Magic comes to the top. But, when i learn about the spec, Magic does not have any 3.5mm jack. How come it became "magic"?

So bros/sists, what do you suggest?
Please

Thanks

If you can wait a lil longer, the price of Hero may drop in a couple of months time to make way for Desire and Legend. That's the trend in UK and is usually the trend for us as well.

If you want it now, the Hero is still the best choice. Go for a 2nd hand one but make sure it's in good condition.

rm1500 for now is...
HTC tattoo.. still can save a bit..
Affordable and acceptable smartphone.. but, small touchscreen and low res are the only cons..
Android 1.6... nod.gif nod.gif
But, if you want better smartphone..
Wait until April, HTC hero's price will dropped maybe until around rm1500..
No regret for Hero then, because it's phone of the year 2009!! rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

I bought tattoo last month from celcom only rm598 (12 month contract). Tattoo might be the cheapest android, and so far i never regret it, android is amazing.

But, i only regret because i didnt buy better android hp. I mean, tatto screen is small compare to other android. Most of android apps designed for bigger screen, so when u install these apps on tatoo the UI become i little bit sluggerish or distorted. However there is no compatibility issue coz i can install almost all android apps.

Just my personal experience after one month using tattoo. Tatto is suitable for entry level if u want to try android. But if u are serious getting into android world then u should find better hp

I have the LG EVE GW620. It's a great phone, compact even with the full keyboard. Would have been a highly recommended phone if not for the 3" screen size. Nice cheap Android phone that's way better than the Tattoo.

Another phone you can consider is the Samsung Galaxy Spica 5700. It's relatively cheap with exceptionally good specs (almost matching the offerings from HTC).

Think u're referring to LG EVE right?

I won't go into the technical specs cause you can compare that yourself. More of my personal review.

I would say the best thing abt it is the full 5-line keyboard. It really is nicely done.
This and the decent 3" screen and the phone is still small and light, yet solid to hold.

The built in sms function features "Threaded SMS" so you don't need to install handcent or other 3rd party apps for that.

The camera's 5 megapixel.

The screen is resistive, so while people say it's not that good, i found it not bad at all, even compared to N1 and X10. There is an advantage even? You can still use a stylus if u want to. It comes in handy because the screen isn't exactly LARGE.

Oh yeah tattoo's screen is a little sub par.

Only downside is Android 1.5. You need to spend some time to flash it to 1.6.

I know a lot of people say it's just a matter of getting used to the touchscreen keyboard. But maybe i'm from a programming background, so it's not possible to match the speed of typing on the keyboard using touch screen. On top of that, it's also not possible to type on touchscreen without looking at the screen. Go to such lengths when there is good keyboard on hand?

Android 1.6 will be officially released soon, by a Canada operator called Rogers. They've found a beta copy of the ROM and already successfully upgraded. Now waiting for the official ROM. Rooted Rogers 1.6 ROM They are also trying to get 2.0 loaded, but i don't have much faith in that. LG GW620 Development

This is the first LG phone that i have ever used. So far i'm more than impressed, especially given such a low price. If only there is a 3.7" model.
The screen's a little less responsive as the X10's. But then i found the Nexus One also not comparable to X10's :S

Now that an AP Milestone is around RM1.5K, I would recommend someone to consider that, purely for the bigger screen.

For the budget conscious, I still recommend Samsung Galaxy Spica 5700.
