Our email users list just gets bigger and it is tedious to add to the individual address book the new user's information.

Has anyone implemented a directory solution with the email server? Could you please tell me how does the solution solve the above-mentioned problem?

Are you intend to use LDAP as your authentication backend as well? Or the LDAP just for address book purposes?

Depends what you want LDAP to function as address book ... easy and authenication still not difficult. In fact there are lots of reading material on the internet about LDAP there are some of the list that I know....

Just managed to get the LDAP working that interfaces with the Outlook Express clients.

But then not attempting to use LDAP as the authentication system with Postfix. Still trying to resolve problem using MySQL for the user authentication system, especailly hosting multiple domains.

Anyone kind enough to spend some time in training us how to set up the virtual domains in Postfix? Small reward can be negotiated

i've had decent success with postfixadmin, http://www.high5.net/postfixadmin/.

but it's too complicated for me to manage/deploy. can't get quota nor maildrop to work properly on freebsd. overall it's very good but in the end didn't suit my preference. it's liable to cease workingif you screw your SASL settings or even upgrade it. there was once instance where i did a minor point release upgrade for CyrusSASL and suddenly all authentication failed because in the newer version, it no longer accepts user@mydomain.com as valid username which is the default setting in any database-backed virtual domain setup. hilarity ensues.

in the end, i opted for postfix virtual aliasing and use systems account as mail accounts. simpler setup, less complicated, better security. easier procmail, .forward and built-in filesystem quota. the quota is less flexible (if $HOME is full, user disk access will be locked without notice).

1) I couldn't get to search records in my ldap database
2) However when I try adding existence record it prompts records already exist.

ermmm. postfix is a nice MTA..but there are not many third party program works easy with it..may i suggest QMAIL.. pretty secure and widely available third party addition..i suggest this site www.qmailrocks.org. have been running qmail for 2 years without much prob, virtual acc with mysql , quota is supported, even implementing clamav and spamassasin is not diff..just my 2 cents

what error message does you get?

u can use slapcat to dump the entire content of the LDAP directory and see whether the record is in there.
