Anyone experience this before when your boss said that she will promote you at the year-end, and you did your work consistently throughout the year, but at year end, she didn't?

How about promotion with no adjustment? Which one is worse?

Promotion without adjustments is better off than empty promises for promotion.

Does that sound a little bit ridiculous? Promotion with no adjustment but will definitely expecting/accepting more works and higher goals?

So... did you work consistently throughout the year?

Your boss' promise was a conditional one.

so true...even if the boss doesn't want to name me as a "manager", fine, with increased workload, please compensate me accordingly....

but usually, promotion for most companies come with a pay rise, those not promoted to the next level, is usually stuck at the average pay, because they are deemed average and to be fair to others (that was according to my boss)

For me, it's a disappointing thing if the boss don't deliver the promise and act like nothing happen. The boss should at least give a reason for the broken promise. But then somehow they are too arrogant to do it with the attitude "they are manager and your and not". Promotion without pay rise suxx but at least if give an extra point to your resume for your next job...

Boss always like to make empty promises. That's not something new or shock.

They can also commit to other party/people a non-reasonable due dates.

this is common in the real world working environment. It is called peptalk. The boss basically use tactics to boost your moral with promises like increment, promotions, shares, company going public and so on. They say work hard and must look at the distance future when company go public, you will be millionaires and so on.

Google for pep talk.

Promotion does not equal to increment. Neither that additional workload or responsibilities means that you are on the way to a promotion too.

I was told that I have a different job title nowadays (increased workload) and there will be an pay adjustment on Jan 2010. Workload increased, required to report to more team leaders now, and I am still earning the peanuts I signed up for sweat.gif Updating resume at the moment.
